so i've got relatively stock 75 2.0 (Bp class currently, AX11 under the new rules). big ass bumpers, stock interior, etc. i'm only 165lbs+/-, so not much to lose there.

current setup:

21mm front welt set full-hard
140's with billys
stock rear sway
Euro race header
6.5" wide wheels (w/ 195 street-rubber)

near-future setup:

falken 205's
180's
bigger torsion bars
faster driver

where can i lose weight in the car? still want an interior (more comfy for dates). my ideas:

-fiberglass bumpers front and rear
-cut out side-impact beams in doors

-your suggestions?

Bumpers would be #1 on my list. Out at the ends of the car is the 3rd worst place to have extra weight (worst is adding rotating mass like extra weight in wheels and tires, 2nd worst is unsprung weight).

But I'm not sure I would want to give up the protection offered by bumpers. So converting to early style bumpers would cut the weight in half (maybe), but still offer some protection from unskilled parallel parkers. Fiberglass will crack and break at the slightest bump from another car.

I'll add my .02 here.

Use your resources on some extra wheels & Rspec rubber.....V racers is gud. Do what you have to do and get -2 deg camber
front & rear and spring for an AX alignment for the rest of the stuff. You'll go faster.

Taking weight off the car is the first step on the road to maddness (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Remove the sound deadening. Put the carpet back down when you are done. You will pull out something like 40+lbs right there. Remove the engine sound pad.

Yank the bumpers... and dont hit anyone.

I'd keep the rubber bumper "covers", ditch the heavy shocks and the main steel weldment inside the bumper....I did that and fab'd alum. brackets to hold the rubber cover to the car...........

What about taking the bumpers off during the auto x?

I know the front one is just 4 bolts.... (ie 5 mins) turn the wheel to the left, take off the right side, turn the wheel to the right, take off the left side...

Dont know how hard the rear is, but Im guessing its pretty simple as well.....

Oh wait, thats early bumpers.. Might be diff for the later bumpers...

Early (pre 73) doors as well....

taking out the heating stuff (if you have headers.. or dont use it..) but it is a pain in the butt to get out (I tried one day.. found out I have to take the gas tank out... grrrr.. havent done it yet..)

Doesn't removing stuff off the car bump you up a class or cost you more points?

I also have an AX question - what would be the absolute fastest AX tires available that don't cost points? The Falkens?

yup, some of it.

if i do it intelligently, it looks like i need not rack up too many points. some of my weight savings plans count as just "backdating", which appears free.

Oh ya, forgot about the points system...

I wonder how many points adding 3.7 liters to the car would be?

hehe
