Just FYI: I have NEVER installed new rubber style tie rods. Go with the Turbo's. You will like them. It really tightens up the feel of the steering. They work VERY well.
Decent price for LemForders right now are in the 179.00$ range. B |

I don't see how you could go wrong with the turbo tie rod ends -- much improvement over the stockers.
Just installed a set a couple of weeks ago. Car feels much better but still needs aligned. I picked mine up from GPR for either 129.00 or 139.00 and they are Lemforders with the Porsche boots and spacers included. |

Recommend the turbo tie rods. Did mine a few months ago and WOW. Very nice upgrade.
Make sure you are close to your alignment shop when you do it. |

What is the best source for the tie rods; and, is there any other replacements that could be done at the same time. I'm going to have the tire/alignment guy at Grand Prix do the install.

I have the turbo tie rods but I need to replace the ball joints for them. What is the part number for this? Is it for a 911 turbo?

yup, they do tighten it up... enuf to give you plenty of bump-steer too; tolerable on a racer or weekender highway car, BUT if you live in the country & daily drive rough roads you will rue the day you departed the rubber oem style (that's the opinion of 2 of us oldtimers who've done it)

I'll be another dissenter. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I needed new ball joints and ALMOST pressed the button on new Turbo tierods, but... Then I figured WHEN exactly has the 914 been criticized for bad steering? Like shocks, brakes, and a lot of other (often good) upgrades, any gains from old, worn out stuff you're replacing isn't a fair comparison. Also, does a street 914 need more feedback? Maybe what little isolation Porsche designed in can't be all bad for rougher back roads, which I love to drive on. AutoX cars are a different matter. So I chose the stock stuff and it tightened things up nicely compared to my worn-out gear. No regrets. And I'm not even old... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif) So for a "race" car or weekend warrior,I'd go for Turbo tie rods. Otherwise, I'd stick with the stock stuff...sorta like brake lines, but that's a different topic~ Just my two cents worth, pete (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |
