OEM Leather wheel.... anyone got a picture?
Is this just my wheel with a leather top? Or is it different all together? My wheel feels too large around (close to legs) and not thick enough (skinny in my hands) but I don't want non-OEM. If that makes any sense. thanks team (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

AGLA in Plantation Florida does a great job in restoring steering wheels. I believe they charge around $150.00 to recover the wheel in leather.
They advertise in PANO and EXCELLENCE ALGA 1-800-780-4500 |

The leather covered and the leatherette covered wheels are just covering the standard hard rubber wheel. Even when these factory wheels are covered, they are still a fairly thin diameter wheel.

The leather ones have sponge rubber padding formed to the steering wheel. I removed the old leather (AFU), and got a kit from....I'll get back to you with that info (damn work). Took about two days of sitting in front of the TV playing with it, and some tore up fingers, but the end result was worth it (don't even bother trying to do this with the wheel in the car). The recover kit came with the leather wrap (prepunched), cord and needles. The holes are VERY small, so make sure you don't miss one or you'll have to start all over again..... I need to check, but I may have a spare "leather" wheel that needs to be recovered, if you're interested PM me. |

I can vouch for AGLA's quality. I did have an "uncommon" delay getting the wheel done. They recovered an AMG wheel for my Benz. Plus for <$200, you can't beat the price. I was surprised at how much time it takes to stitch them and how much company's can and will charge for the labor. There are DIY kits from wheelskins.com if you prefer...

Yeah I believe the '74 and later wheels had a sponge rubber padding on them. But the pre-74's did not.

They advertise in PANO and EXCELLENCE ALGA 1-800-780-4500 It depends on how much your time is worth (and how patient you are). The kit I got was around $50, and came out perfect. I'll check my receipt file when I get home and find out where I got it from. |

Will,
Here's a picture of my car with a factory leather steering wheel. The interior is vintage '72. The steering wheel does feel "skinny". I don't have particularly large hands, yet my finger tips touch my palms when gripping the wheel. Thanks, Wayne (type47fan) PS: let me know when the LE spoiler arrives. It's from the car pictured.
