I just had to share this and maybe help bring a smile to your face, I finally brought my 74 1.8 home today. I had to wait as I had to build a garage for it, lots of work to do on it which I am looking forward to, I'm sure that brings back memories for many of you, I have it now also.

When you are replying to (or composing) a message, click on as many of those smilies to your left. If those aren't adequate for conveying how you feel, click on Show All at the bottom of that window, and a whole slew of these smilies will pop up on another window.

HTH, and congrats!

hell, i remember the first 914 that my grandfather brought home. i was 14, and he let me drive it. we were at about 110 on a flat, country highway when he told me to slow down.

i was a bit more conservative when i drove MY first 914 home... 'course, i have to work on this one myself.

I'm 50 years old now but still one of the most exciting days of my life was when I was 19 and my dad drove me to the local Porsche dealer to take delivery of a brand new Phoenix Red '73 2 Liter that I ordered a few months earlier. For as long as I live, I will never forget that day. SCHWING SCHWING SCHWING

I bought my 914 site unseen and flew out to GA and drove it all the way back to California. The car only had 38,000 miles and still was almost 100% stock as it rolled off the show room floor. The coolest part was buckling up and hitting the highway - the car was like new and I had 2500 miles of open road ahead of me. That was my best 914 expereince ever.

Day after Thanksgiving. Couldn't wait to go and get it. Couple of tank slappers in the middle of a snow covered interstate highway early in the morning. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Yeah, I remember it well. So does my wife who was following me. LOL (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif)

Trailered mine home behind my '86 Chevy Blazer. The truck had just come home from the shop with a brand new rebuilt motor. The 100 km drive and 4500 lb trailer helped to break that engine in nicely. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Backed her off the trailer and immediately started taking turns around the neighbourhood, no plates, 1 AM. Man could that thing corner. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Spent the next couple of years whipping around the neighbourhood, having a blast. Cruisin' Main street. Then I decided to see about a little restoration work, and I discovered what the PO was hiding from me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

When I get it off the jack stands y'all will be the first to know.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Still remember that first night though. Sweet.

I didn't tell my wife I was buying a 914, or any car for that matter. I drove it in the driveway, went in and said: Hi, guess what I bought! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
She wasn't impressed and still isn't, won't ride in it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

It was a beautiful day in Houston and the only thing I was worried about was how to take off the top. Once the PO showed me that I was gone. I got about 5 miles from my house, with my old man behind me, and I had my first experience with vapor lock. It was a small blemish on a great day and it let me know right off that I was going to be spending some time underneath this neat car.
That was a '73 1.7, that was perfect, minus the fuel pump location. Looking back, it is probably my favorite out of the 6 914's I've owned. I wish I had pics of that one, but that was in '89 and they didn't have digital cameras then. I don't think anything was digital in '89 besides my alarm clock. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

About two years ago (i'm only 16 by the way) I found a teener on cars.com.

My dad had owned one when he was 19 so he said go for it. I called the owner,, and convinced her that I was planning on restoring it (its almost there). We went to see it on a really cold and rainy day in Novermber, and decided to get it.

Two weeks later we trailored it home (i wish i had pictures, it was so nasty looking). My dad said he had never gotten so many wierd looks in his life (fyi we picked it up at 6am and we pulled into a Donkin Donuts at 7:30, rush hour).

I cleaned it a few hours later, and found that the paint is almost perfect, and is a great example of a base coat any many clears.

My God, I can't remember that far back!!

OK, a few highlights: I was 20 years old. I saw the car in AutoTrader for $3,500. I had a '70 VW Bug that I traded the guy, that took $1000 off. I had $1000 in cash and I had my dad co-sign a personal loan for $1,500. I made $77/month payments for 24 months.

Drove it home and just walked around it and opened the trunks and doors and engine lid about a million times. I could not get the smile off my face. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Vinyl on the windshield pillar came on the first thousand or so 1973 914's that had the appearance group option.

My shoulder was black 'n' blue as the starter went out halfway into the journey. By the time I hit the pass for home, the windhield wipers as well as the defrosters didn't work. It was dark and the rain oh my God, it was the wettest day in Seattle in over one hundred years. Damn, I loved that trip I'd do it over in a heartbeat. Did I tell you 'bout the late night caravan (about 4AM) of around thirty eighteen wheelers that blew by me doin' over a hundred ('cause I know how fast I was goin') all within several feet (slipstreaming) of each other.
