Two classic black face under the dash gauges - finally got them installed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Since I've never had gauges, I realize I really don't know what kind of readings I should expect. My temp fluctuates between 180 to 200 with ambient air temp at 84 degrees. Can I expect my temp to increase a degree with every degree increase in ambient temperature? Or is it not linked that close? My oil pressure (with a warm engine) is 15 to 20# at idle (800-1200rpms) and reads at 50-60# when driving at a mid rpm range (3000-5000rpm). Are these pretty normal oil pressure readings? Or am I doomed? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

josheph222, I have found that my temp varies with RPM once warmed up. I would say that your temp and pressure both look good.I have heard that 10psi per 1000 rpm is good for pressure on BAR is = to 14.7psi est and I am happy when mine runs one bar per 1000 rpm. I don't know when the pressure valve comes in but you look Good. I hope this helps Mark

Head temps are barely impacted by ambient temps. They are impacted heavily by load.. If you only bought an oil temp gauge, you are only monitoring half of the engine. The temps are not even related to each other (oil and heads) one can fry while the other is freezing.
Oil temps are susceptible to ambient changes and they will also creep up with added RPM as friction increases and efficiency drops, thus making the engine work harder. Head temps should run 275-365(can spike to 400 on a hill under load in fifth) Oil temps from 180-220 Oil pressure should be 40-55 PSI at 3000 RPM with oil at 210F Hot idle oil pressure should be 20 PSI at 2ooF |
