What's the safest way to tow a 914? I have to tow it to the DMV on thursday so that i can register it.

Flat bed trailer, tow dolly is my last choice. They can dent them up pretty good if it is not secured properly.

Congrats on running it!

Forget towing if it runs, Bud.
Just ask for a special moving permit from the DMV.

Free permit. Drive it! First choice is always, drive it!

yes. no. depends ...

they're boxer engines, so, yes, they make a unique "knocking" sound.
and certain types of pistons can be louder when cold, but they will get quieter when warmed up.
usually, the "knock" is valves that need adjustement bad.

or, everything is slowly coming apart.

aha! you shouldn't drive the car without adjusting the valves. especially since it sounds like it has been sitting for quite a while ...

and the oil light is *BAD*. that means you don't have enough oil-pressure.
if you run out of oil, the engine starts to make a loud "knocking" sound, right before it seizes up ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

have you checked yer oil level lately?
if the car has been sitting and if you haven't done so, you need to completely flush the engine of the old oil and fill her up with some good stuff (10/30 will do).

the oil is only like a month or two old, meaning 0 miles on the oil.

is there a way to check the oil pressure ?
