Please enlighten me. Injection or carbs???
I have Dellorto's on my car now & have all the parts to convert to injection. Car runs great w/ the carbs. Starts & idles fine, passes emmisions, no problems. Mileage isn't as good as it could be w/ injection. My last car was a 74 1.8 w/ injection. Had a few problems w/ hot start & stall, Temp sensor, fuel pump, relay pack. Which system gives you the most performance? Mark Acosta 73 2.0 Tucson AZ |

Hi Mark,
I normally base this decision on how you plan to use the car. If it needs to be your driver to and from work, I would go with the injection (my wife gets 29-30mpg in here 73 2.0 with injection) If you only use the car for nice days and romps through the nearest valley, leave it carbed. Have you spent any time playing with the jetting on the carbs ?? or did you run them they way they where straight out of the box. B |

It sounds like a good question to me.

See, that's what nice about Brad running this thing. He sets the criteria pretty high for what constitutes bad taste. To risk being ejected all you have to do is out-asshole the asshole (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
In addition, he won't tell you your question is the stoopidest thing he's ever heard unless he feels he knows you. Enough brown-nosing for me today. Jon |

It's a great question Mark, nothing wrong with it at all. Everyone here has probably crossed that bridge at one time.
In case you didn't know, the '74-'75 1.8L had a different type of FI known as L-Jet, which is a bit more finicky than the D-Jet found in the rest of them. Take it from me... I know... As Brad said, unless you are going to log a ton of miles on the car and need fuel economy AND since you like the way it runs with carbs you might want to stick with what you have. I had a '74 1.8 a while back that was carbed that ran like a champ! Did you say you passed EMISSIONS with dual carbs!? WOW! Chris H. |

I personally like the L-Jet....in fact I went out of my way to remove the D-Jet from my euro spec 2.0 and install the L-jet system instead....the car rocked until I decided to take it apart for an unrelated item...opps.........
Hey B, Who else is going down to the swap meet with you besides Jon? |

Too late Mueller.
Full truck unless one of them bails out. Olav,Jon, and my trusty sidekick (Jason) You can ride in the middle of the crew cab between Jason and Jon. OR.. you could alleviate some stress for me and drive your truck down also. We have rooms in San Diego Friday night and should have rooms Saturday night right down the street from Dunkels. B |

There once was a man from Novato...
I was contemplating renting a truck if Brad couldn't fit me in. We could still look into that if we get more peeps or need to haul more stuff than Brad can fit. |

Mueller, did you have any tuning problems running the L-jet on the 2-liter?
What was the power like, compared to the d-jet? I have a total basket case D-jet (I mean it’s in a basket) and when I rebuild the 2-liter, it would be nice to know that I can use my L-jet FI if I can’t get the d-jet working. Mark Henry |

The car is not a daily driver. I have had it for 7 years and have only managed to put 3,500 miles on it.
I know that it is hard to compare an L-jet injected 1.8 to a D-jet injected 2.0. I have just have never driven a injected 2.0. The 2.0 has about 20 more horsepower than the 1.8 did. I bought the injection set-up right after I bought the car, before I spent much time driving it w/ the carbs on it. I assumed at the time that the injection was the way to go. Now that I have spent some time w/ the carbs it seems like the injection might be a step in the wrong direction. The car drives way better than I thought it would. THe car is kind of a "hot rod" and thats what I like about it. Is there anybody out there that has converted a 2.0 w/ carbs back to injection? I like my l-jet...and it was used by alot of different car manufactures. Thing with ljet is have everything hookedup right and make sure all vacuum lines are tight with no leakage...then it's pretty bullet proof. The 914 and my 928 both run ljet and I don't do anything to them..they just run and run and run and run. For how all the hoses hook up on an l-jet, there is a very good diagram over on the pelican (oops) technical section site.

If it's running good now, why mess with it? Wait until your carbs are shot, then try the FI.
