In nice legable script were the words "Drugs are a crutch". Sloppily scrawled below it was "and life's a broken leg". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

QUOTE(Rob Ways @ Oct 7 2004, 09:25 PM) Yeah.... good insight folks. I've priced my "extra" 914 accordingly and its sitting in front yard. HA HA. Hey Rob, Don't strip that car down for parts! I've seen that ax car and it rules. Your price for it seems way below what it is worth. Just wait it out. The right buyer will come along. And also, you should probably remove the roll-over bar (at least for taking sale photos). Many buyers don't understand that the bar is easily removable and think that they can't use the passenger seat. I think that if I were in the market again your car would be a really great race/street Porsche. And goddamn the price is right, even with low oil pressure. Douglas |

QUOTE(Root_Werks @ Oct 8 2004, 12:30 PM) About the only looks I care about that I get in my 914 are the ones from 911/944 owners when they here the sound of a six behind a 914 chassis. Other than that, I don't pay attention. I don't know, I don't seem to mind the good looking girl in a tank top looking back and smiling when I drive by with the top down. I'd like to find someone who'll buy it, drive it for 4 years and sell it back to me. You bring up some good points about the bar and waiting it out, but at the same time, most people don't know how to spend their 914 dollars well. I don't blame them either... I passed on a $6k Bi car to build this one for $15k. We'll see. |

Perceived Value is what can't be captured in dollars and cents .... 914's = more "smiles-per-mile"
What is that worth to you? Peace (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif) |

Rob,
Why don't you put it on ebay? I am sure you could get a good price there. Junkers are going there for more than you are asking for yours, it seems.. David |

I have to agree with Douglas, 914 values are definitely on the rise. Evidence is everywhere, the AutoWeek auction result and now the Excellence article. To deny this would be like denying that American muscle cars have gone up in value.
It's supply and demand at work. There are very few original rust free 914s around, even fewer in factory 6 or 2.0L configurations. The car is becoming more desirable (in demand) and that's what's raising the prices. I remember when I was young how people dissed the 914 styling. It's looking better with age just like AutoWeek pointed out. The performance was always great, that's why Porsche had to de-tune to 6-cylinder engine, to keep the li'l bro 914 from beating the 911 in road tests. I have a 911 that I love a lot but the 914-6 is a lot more fun to drive, it's downright intoxicating. I'm never going to sell mine but it's good to know the values are increasing nonetheless. |

914's certainly remain my favorite by far. Too many times have I hear the 911 refered to as a "Pollished turd". I have owned maybe 10 911's and 20 914's? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
Me, I don't much care how much it is worth, I think I will keep my 914. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

With all the time and money I have into mine, I will probably never sell it. If I do anything, I will leave it to my son when he turns 16. Of course, that might be a mistake, he would probably kill himself in it. Maybe when he turns 25. Wonder what it will be worth then?

I'm going to look at a car today. What does Excellence say the value of a #3 condition 1973 2.0 liter 914 is?

It doesn't list values on that scale.

QUOTE(anthony @ Oct 20 2004, 11:10 AM) It doesn't list values on that scale. OK. What does it list as the value of of a 1973 2.0 at the middle of their scale, or equivalant to a #3 condition as described below? #3 Good: Presentable inside and out with some signs of wear. Not detailed but very clean. Body should be straight and solid with no apparent rust and absolutely no rust-through anywhere. Shiny, attractive paint but may have evidence of minor fading or checking or other imperfections. Runs and drives well. May need some minor mechanical or cosmetic work but is fully usable and enjoyable as is. Thanks. Mike |

In my opinion a #3 condition 73 2.0L is worth approximately $6000-8500.
The Excellence values for a 73/74 2.0L car are: low 5527 good 6284 excellent 8413 There's a lot of debate on these numbers. I could see how "good" and "excellent" could be interpreted to fit in with the current 914 market reality but what is "low". We all know that 914s bottom out at around $500. Based on my own personal observations, the 5 point scale for the 73/74 2.0L would be: 1) $12000+ 2) $8500 - $12000 3) $6000 - $8500 4) $3000 - $6000 5) $500 - $3000 Here's a page detailing the condition levels: http://www.1motormart.com/condnos.htm |

QUOTE(bob174 @ Oct 8 2004, 09:11 AM) If you want to own an investment, buy a Ferrari. I bought my 914 to drive. I intend to keep it till I die & don't care if I recapture the money that I've put into it. Sure would like a Ferrari, too. NO! NO! NO! I should post the 3 years worth of repair bills for my ex-Ferrari......could have bought every 914 in America! |

It's all my fault....I sold the wifes 73' 2.0 earlier this year for $8500 It was in very nice stock form with some mechanical upgrades that did not affect the appearance of the car. The key is having all of the original stuff on the car when you try to sell it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
