I purchased a type 1 oil pump (modified for use in a type 4) will I need a type 1 cover for it as well.

IIRC, you need to shave/grind 1mm off the end of the drive tang

yep.... if you can find an old 36 horse or 40 horse they use a nice thick steel cover.
