So getting ready to hang the HEs and one of Ben's pea-shooter (GT3?) mufflers. Is the only support for the muffler the hanger at the end of the trannie, or should it be supported additionally?

Hi Lars,

Hanger at the rear of the trans and hooks to the inside bolt of the header/muffler .
That's all you get. Make sure you install the oil lines before you hang the exhaust.

I don't have a pic of it mounted because I removed mine to measure it so Ben could make some more. But it lets you mount the muffler like a 911 with metal straps around the body and the weight of the muffler is supported at the middle of the muffler, not at the mounting flanges. To me it made sense and worked well.

Thanks Luke. I mount the HEs and GT3 muffler tomorrow. I may try something a bit more simple. God I dislike mounting CVs...what a freaking mess. But they are done. And I found an acceptable boot for the speedo.

If you hate doing CVs be sure to plug or seal those extra holes in the tin CV covers.

So got the HEs hung today...solo is a challenge. Feels like the end flanges of the HEs are off from the hanger. And the hanger does not seem centered on the tailpiece. Suggestion was to loosen up the 6 nuts on each HE to better center them to the hanger. The hanger has oblong holes that will allow up and down movement but not left to right.

Just leave everything loose for now. Hang the muffler on the heat exchangers then once you have everything lined up tighten up the hardware. It’s kinda of a pain but that's how I do it. Makesure all your gaskets are in too. I had 1 fall off when I did my brother's exhaust.

Ok, that makes sense. I'll be pleasantly surprised if there is enough "wiggle room" to ensure that everything lines up. To be clear, what I'm hearing is that the hanger is symmetrical and it doesn't make any difference as to how it is hung?

Maybe scratch that. I just looked through a number of BaT auctions and focused on the underside "hanger" pics. Almost all the images show the hanger with the dimple pointed to the rear. Mine is temporarily mounted backwards...and there is a 3/4" difference in the arm length. I think that is part of my problem. Anyway I will loosen everything back up and mount the muffler and carefully tighten.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) thats what I did ,over that length there is a fair amount of " wiggle room" ,you should be fine , my car came with a custom heavy duty hanger that was well made and to suit 911 2 into one muffler ,cheers.

Mounted Bens beautiful GT3 muffler and I have clearance problems with the tailcone and the muffler. Has anyone experienced this? Hate to clearance the back of the muffler, but it doesn't look like there is any other way...suggestions? Good news is that the hanger now lines up correctly and the pea shooters are perfectly centered.

Are you using a real six trans. I bet everyone up until now has been using a side shifter with their six. Ben would know for sure but I sold some mufflers for him and I never remember them going in an original six.

Ben didn't make a ton of those mufflers before he shut it down. He might have some suggestions for you. @MB911
