Butttoning up the rear. Valance has come a long way. Not sure why I am bothering to get it 99% and the Wurth "stone guard" will hide most imperfections. Anyway, its ready for the product and then paint and mounting.

Waiting for paint to dry... my 6 did not come with a jack and as much as I wouldn't want to trust these old jacks, I feel like I should have one in the trunk mounted spot. Picked this up off the board, and while I'm not sure if it is correct, it is a Bilstein and looks close. Definitely has the correct patina, so we'll give it a good sanding, cleaning and re-paint.

And rear valance is finally wrapped up. Totally ok with finished product and it should hold up better and longer than fiberglass. Started with this 914 version and closed it up.

Before I attack the interior, I need to do the vinyl replacement on the sail panel. I see the writeup on the orange car install, but I am looking for a video. I seem to remember Ian Karr doing one but I can't seem to find it. If anyone has access to a link, feel free to post or send it to me in a PM. My questions relate to the front of the bar. I assume the pad attached to the front of the bar that the top latches to...needs to come off first? Then the top vinyl is wrapped and trimmed and the pad is reattached? The rear of the targa bar is covered by the aluminum trim.

Decided to pull the gas tank up front to replace the fuel line with high pressure line and just get it out of the way. We can run carbs on high pressure line, but should not run MFI on low pressure lines. Got the tank out and removed the lines only to find that when I installed them...I installed high pressure lines. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Dangit. Well better to double check them to be safe. Onward!

Somewhere I missed what engine (2.2 or 2.4) you landed on but the MFI really sets this build apart. That is my dream combo.

I have the same Ben GT muffler. Love the look and the sound. It will drone though. Not sure it is possible to build a two out let muffler on a six that doesn’t. Something about the harmonics. You can build a plug/ cap and cap one outlet when you want quiet.

I was going to copy your valence but mine was not deep enough...and I own it and had already done the left side delete. I really like what you did. I'm not too worried about the exhaust drone. My engine (for the moment) is a 2.4 T MFI.

I wasn't looking forward to installing the sail panels, but they need to be completed before I can finish the targa bar and finish up the interior. I read and re-read the link on the forum and decided that I had procrastinated enough. I have had all the vinyl for a while. The delay was the trim. I think I discussed this before...my trim was shot. Scratched, dented, bent. Everything was wrong with it. But one of my inherent problems is that I like to bring things back to life. So I reshaped, filed, sanded and massaged the trim back straight. Then I tried to polish it and realized the aluminum was anodized...not so fast there bucko. So I had to remove (sand) all the anodization off, and slowly polish the aluminum. started with 80 grit and worked up to 5000 grit. I did it, it nearly broke me, but it can be done. Realizing how many hours I invested, I should have just purchased new trim. That said, it was time to commit to the sail refurbish. You guys have all done this and I'm not going to bore you with the step by step.

I think the hardest part was (and still is) threading the washer and nut on the post at the bottom of the drivers sail trim in the wheelwell. The oil tank is in the way and I am NOT going to remove it to get the nut on the stud. I will prevail.
Connected the heater valves, and ran the correct (took three tries with Pelican to send me the correct heater ducts tubing) heater tube from the HEs to the block offs on the side of the fan. Still need to install the fuel filter console and fuel pump and plumb the fuel lines. I need to redo my interior...seats, dash and add my doors. The list is getting shorter and I think I am too. Early cars, 70,71 and 72 have the jack similar to the one that you restored except for the base,
Rather than a stamped steel foot it should be cast iron.
Another original detail is a small piece of perlon glued to the inner fender to protect the paint.

I am doing the sail panel vinyl this weekend. Have been putting this off for a year but I'm not going to NE meet up with my pants down. So best to get on with it. I don't know why this project gives me such angst. Just need to bear down and channel my inner Fred or Eric.

Vinyl looks great! that's a nice finishing touch.

It's not as difficult as it looks. I taped mine in place, fitted and trimmed. Then glued down 1/2 at a time. It worked well for me, no bubbles, almost 5 years later and still looks great. Can't remember what glue I used, but remember got it from upholstery shop.

Milestone today. Fitted the targa bar latch trim (very fussy) and latches and then fitted the restored top for the first time in 10 years. Cut the side seals to fit and it is a tight fit.
rear latches need to be adjusted...there's probably a trick, so school me please. I can't be happier with how it turned out. All new seals and gaskets. Time for the interior. I have a new seat kit, but the door panels need to be redone, and my carpet sucks. I could use some advice on a replacement set of carpet.

Luke, I have not. Last interior I did on a 911 was AppBiz and it was more of an "R" lightweight material. Not what I need for this. I'll have to look more closely at my carpet to see if it is worth trying to refurbish it.

Depends on the quality you want.
J-West took over AppBiz. They and 914 rubber make adequate carpet kits.
Make a template from your existing carpet and send Autobahn Interiors or a similar high end shop if you want something really nice.
