Hi all,

wanted to post some of my latest illustrations that I've done for folks. I have gotten several pm's from members here asking about the price of a custom peice. So as not to anger the mods I've posted the pricing in the memorabilia section here:
But it boils down to a little more than minimum wage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=190345

I currently have 2 cars in the cue, a 350z, and a 57 Chevy, so it will be first come first serve and each illustration takes between 25-30hrs.

Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Very nice work. When my car is completed, I will consider having a portrait made.

Thank you.

Wow! Those pics looks great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)! ........ Is a picture all that is needed to get one of these done? I wonder what it would take to put an illustration on a T-Shirt?

VERY nice. . You've got talent. .
SO if we send you a picture you can turn it into
a portrait ??
what is the general size? I'm thinking something 18 x 24 poster size.. .
or can we just enlarge your artwork to the size we want?

thanks for the kind words fellas,

what is needed:
several high res photos are best. I'll use the '12 CSTV as an example. The wife of the owner had it done as a gift for her husband. She sent me about 14 high res photos via "drop box". Several of those were shots of the whole car from multiple angles and the rest were details of the wheels, lights etc. I choce the following as the main reference photo.

Attached Image

I used in total 5 reference images for contour, color and lighting, and other details like the brakes, wheels, grill and lights.

size:
The finished illustrations are designed at 20x16 inches, 900dpi and around a 1gig. It could print out at 60x48 and still be a pretty descent quality. But if you wanted it printed on a skateboard, for example, we could design it appropriately.

I maintain rights to the artwork itself and keep the digital file so if you want decide later you want it printed on a mug, poster or what ever I can send the artwork to the printer and you can pay them directly.

t-shirt:
there are several ways to go about printing on a t-shirt. Via silkscreen you pay by the color so the artwork must be simplified and a 1 off could get expensive.

Another way is send it to a place that basically does a fancy iron on; this is better suited for the complexity of these illustration and also more affordable when only printing a couple shirts.

did I miss anything?
thanks again for showing an interest.

peace,
Chuck

Chuck,

The '68 Firebird really hit home for me, it was my first muscle car back in the days, want to take on another project? Great work!

Wow! That is a fantastic looking ride. The red one I did is owned by my youngest brother. It's bored out to 455 I believe and pushes over 400hp with 564ft lbs of torque at 3k. I drove it this summer for the first time...crazy fun. You can break it loose in every gear and flames shoot out the tail pipes on down shifts!

Thanks for the compliments and I'd love to illustrate that Firebird.

Chuck,

The best way to reproduce your art on a t-shirt would be DTG (direct to garment). Basically ink jet print straight to the shirt. Looks better than the iron on style and, as you mentioned, screen printing would be way to costly especially for a one off.

Chuck,

Those are beautiful and so clean looking.

How do you create them?

They look like digital or air brushed images.

What software do you use?

I used to do real media like pen and ink and acrylics and would like to get into computer media.

Thanks,

John

Thanks for that. I've never had anything more than a 3 color design printed on a shirt so I've always gone the silkscreen route, but this is really helpful. I'll have to price it out.

Hi John,
thanks for the kind words.

The 73 Firebird started out as hand drawn line art, the 911 started out in Photoshop where I basically traced the contour lines of the body then converted those lines to vector in Illustrator, the CTSV was done entirely in Illustrator so it varies.

However it gets started the car is then built out in Illustrator (CS5).

Once I have the car done I take it to Photoshop where I create the background. I have, and have made, several high res brushes that I layer and build up to give it that painterly look. The whole process generally take 25-30 hours.

Illustrator and Photoshop would be good for you to learn if you want to get into it. If you can find a "training center" like Noble Desktop, where you can take a 1 or 2 day introductory class to the programs you'll qualify for a student rate on the programs that will save you $$$. Then you'd be best off getting an Adobe "Classroom in a Book". I actually had a professor that walked into the studio dropped the books off and walked out and only came back to test us at the end of chapters.

If you start getting into it and have questions pm me.

peace,
Chuck

Here is the latest. Maynard Brown's '57 Chevy. Soon I'll start Paul's badass '68 Firebird. I'm also working on a couple of 914 & 911 nerd shirts.

peace,
Chuck

Here is Phoenix-MN (Paul's) 1968 Firebird. Just had it printed and shipped! Was a fun project. My first attempt at a less abstract background. I also found out Photoshop has a 2gig save limit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Thanks again Paul.
