Mmmmm. Could be. When I pulled the engine out with a blown head I took the whole thing apart and then down to my mechanic but I could well have left that behind. I think you are right. Thanks

That is correct. the slot is where the push rods guide wire is held in place. the through holes are for the bolt that scew into the heads.
