What's the difference between 911 and 914 control arms. I bought my car as a basket case and it didn't have any torsion bars and the ones from my parts car don't fit

I believe the main incompatibility is that the 911 and 914-6 arms have a 30-tooth spline pattern and work only with torsion bars with that number of teeth, while the 914-4 arms and torsion bars have a 29-tooth spline. Don't ask me why, that's just the way the factory did it.

Not really, though there may be more variety of sizes available with the 911 spline count. Don't really know why they used different spline counts, but I imagine it's probably the same as the Super Beetles used as they were trying to use VW parts where possible to keep the price down.

I'm in the process of getting torsion bars for my '74 2.0, and I've received two incorrect sets of 30-spline bars so far. Aaaaaargh! Well, 3rd time's a charm for the 29-spliners. Maybe the guy at Weltmeister/Ecklers can personally count the spline before shipping.

Hard to fit those Super Beetle coil-over springs into the 914 torsion bar tubes, but I guess enough money would make 'em fit .......................... The Cap'n |
