Changed some fuel hoses and some questions arose late last nite....
1- The fuel injectors are secured with a rubber "O" ring (the bigger one) that attaches to the intake manifold via the metal harness. How do you re-seat that blasted donut??????????????? If my eyes are correct, that seal acts as a vibration cushion and to ensure the injector is inserted to the correct depth against the "internal" seal. Comments????? 2- How common is it for the injector itself to leak fuel? I have not tested outside of the manifold yet, just thought I would ask.... Comments????? Thanks team, T |

Leak?, like as injector to manifold? Those seals wear out and leak air. The injectors and leak or rather stick open.
Change the injector seals every few years just the same as the fuel line. Geoff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Sorry Geoff,
You do know the injectors to leak fuel? and how about that external seal (the bigger rubber ring). Any clues on how to get that seated into its holder? T |

Hey aveale, I finally got a start at putting the negine back together and the best way to put those large o-ring in is to use a bit of lubricante, do not use wd-40 as it eat the rubber, try to get releasall from crappy tire,, cheap and it is vegetable base so it will not harm any of the rubber, or any high vacuum silicone grease or a silicone based oil.

forgot the fuel injector, as part of the verification of all the part i have checked the injectors i had to find out that some were pluged and some leaked, the cause of the leaking is dirt in the injector, i will my leaky one with IPA and sonicated them for 10-15 minutes then still using ipa in a beaker I use a vacuum pump to suck more solvent in themthrough the tip and powering them and there was brown goo comming out of them after 2- treatment they were like new and completly leak free

One of my injectors plastic body cracked and leaked. I was told it is fairly common. I replaced all my injectors and seals.

The big outer rings should not be much of a problem to get to fit. Anytime you remove the injectors, replace the inner seal, or do it on a regular basis. They get cooked with the heat and fail regularly. The injectors themselves often leak; mostly where the metal is bonded to the plastic. Replace any leaking injector. There are lots of used ones available for the 1.7. I try to keep a stock of the seals on hand at all times.

I can't remember but aren't you supposed to use a 9v battery instead of 12v to open the injectors for cleaning??

You replace the big outer O-ring by sliding or cutting the old one off the injector. Then you slide the new seal onto the injector, and slide the clip into place over that. It should slide or roll into place without a ton of difficulty. If you leave the injector hooked up to the fuel rail, you will want to slide the retaining clip onto the injector before you put the O-ring onto it.
