Pelican down atleast all day today. Usually, the World goes down and we go there, now the reverse. Right in the middle of my 3.4 build. Anyone know the story?

The usual PP forum URL doesn't work for me (forums.pelicanparts.com), but this sort of works...
http://forums5.pelicanparts.com/ They are apparently experiencing a DOS attack. Check out this... http://forums5.pelicanparts.com/porsche-91...der-attack.html Richard |

I had wondered about that. I was able to get to the main Pelican site, but not the forum.
I'm betting it's another escrow (or similar) scam again. Yup, a quick Google search of "escrow scam pelican parts" shows a thread on the BBS about a scam. --DD |

Here is part of a thread from a couple days ago...
Admin edit: Link removed ... Looks like Wayne or someone deleted the content. Maybe this caused their attack? |

My Google search was actually showing up results from several years ago.

I was able to dig up some cached content. Looks like another scam, but a less-sophisticated one. Someone is offering an expensive car on c-list for a good deal (but not insanely good). They want to handle the transaction remotely through a lawyer's office.
That office has a website that is well done, but the text is lifted wholesale from another lawyer's website. The person who was talking to them about buying the car claims to have done more research and found that it is a scam, which they were almost taken by. And since the thread is the top Google search result for the name of the website, and it says scam, the host of the thread gets a DDOS attack. Familiar M.O., different scam. The thread was removed from the searchable part of the BBS, and when the search rank drops the attack will likely stop. --DD |
