Ihave been thinnking about this livery too! So kewl. The orginal color is a Triumph code called Powder Blue and Marigold for the stripe. The outline stripe is a dark blue... The reason the blue is so "washed out" looking is because the paint was thinned and applied as lightly as possible to save wieght. Same is true for the GT-40s...
I say go for it, but I am taking #20 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)!

Did someone say Gulf Colors?

I was wondering when you would pop in! Your car was the first one I thought of when I started reading this thread. It's a beauty.

Meredith, thanks for the comments. I debated several color schemes when I painted this car, but when it was all said and done I had to have gulf colors. No regrets (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Hey, I'd like to make another suggestion... look at the picture that Bowlsby posted, do exactly that but bring the orange color that's on the rocker panels a little bit further up maybe 2 or 3 inches. Then run a strip of black vinyl tape (1/4") to seperate the orange and blue. This will give the illusion of having larger rocker panels and smaller doors like the Gulf 917s.... I watched McQueen's "LeMans" last night, LOL..

That black/orange one above looks like it has the 914 graphic on the hood. Its the one that has the 914 at the base of the stripes leading over the hood.

Very '70's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

It's been my experiance in building hundreds of "Gulf Blue" 917's and other historic Porsches that it tends to be more of a muted powder blue. The older pictures are not all that accurate. Many restorations have gotten it wrong.

I was able to find a color from DuPont named " Gulf Blue" and the code is 328 from 1978.

Sounds like a fair price if it's 1/18th scale. The colors just about right.
