I would love to drive the Streets of Willow Springs! Unfortunately the drive from Seattle is a bit long.

I risk my teener sometimes.

This is not a "real" race track but there is a bit of risk ...

The Speedventure event was ok, but nobody does it better than the POC.
Our 914-c.i. Car ran 1:33.997 Ccw and 1:33.107 CW, stuck really well and we finished up our scrub Khumos too! We will keep our new rubber for a decent POC event.
Much of the talk in the pits was about the corner workers and their wielding the black flag in
excess. I think that if these workers could maybe put their pushbrooms to work, there would be fewer cars on the debris-which causes most of the John Deere adventures.
Most of the flaggers stand in their cement forts toking on a stogie, are these folk kidding me?
So then our car gets black flagged, and we pull in and lose there laps discussing
that a corner worker states that we do not"Know the race line"
Ridiculous!
We set POC lap records here, my son's home track since he was 16.
I told this "Professional" to put one of their HIGH desert crackheads in our car and SHOW us a proper line.
With nothing else he had to say, we departed for the remainder of the session. Other than this
minor irritation, a great weekend, and met Terry with his crazy
fast 914-v8.

Terry invited me (insisted) to drive his car @ SOW. I had to turn down his gracious offer. Saturday I have to drive my daughter across town to take her SAT, then to final rehersal. Sunday, she's performing in a rock band at the Route 66 Diner.

Have fun without me!

Andys

Re: Last Saturday @ Streets of Willow.

I tried my DAMNEST to get AndyS in the car as a thank-you for his 5+ years of spending his time and $$ to come out to the track and show how to make the chassis work. He is a TRUE RACE ENGINEER!

There are ONLY 2 people I trust to drive my beast: AndyS is one and my Brother is the other (but I worry about brother).

AndyS, being a great Dad, took his daughter to the VITAL SAT test session.
I cannot fault him for his choice: Good Man!!

The GOOD NEWS: I think he's interested in coming out to help me with the new
Royale Formula Ford.....Dang, how did I get so lucky?

Hey Marty,
It was great meeting you and Matty Saturday and I was very impressed by your knowledge of all things Porsche and Matty's solid driving.

I have to agree that the corner workers were WAY TOO FULL of THEMSELVES!
Iwas black-flagged 3 times: once was a tiny strip of weather stripping that dangled below the car and once where I did a tank-slapper, dropped 1 wheel off
but gather it up and went on. HOWEVER, I had HIT A RUBBER CONE!! I was SO ASHAMED. On the last conversation with the Black Flag guy, he said "Take it easy out there." I was thinking WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?: THIS IS A RACE TRACK.

The general opinion in the pits was that the corner workers all came from the nearest trailer park with No Checking if they could write their name. While this is a toungue-in-cheek joke, the corner workers have been doing an ever-worse
job over that last few years.

The incident I keep remembering was while tearing over the blind rise at the chicane on the inside straight at about 110, a corner worker chose that moment to run across the track in front of me. WHAT?

And so it goes,
Terry

I think it was John Williamson (Otto) who once said to me, "Just think about it Chris. You're trusting your life to a crackhead whose brain is fried from standing in 115 degree sun all day working for minimum wage..."

Luckily POC seems to get the better of the corner and grid workers. I'm still bummed I missed the event despite the horrible sounding track conditions and flag-happy corner worker stories.

Nice thread

but I would challenge you that RACING... does not mean going on a track
Racing means WHEEL TO WHEEL competition with other cars....

I would love to see more teeners actually competing wheel to wheel !

Agreed:

http://youtu.be/5U0KeDXozMc

http://youtu.be/r19jISBsbFA

these are just the ones I've uploaded to Youtube, thought 2011 and 2012 have been bad years for my racing career due to constant "issues" (broken suspension, stripped gears, bad set ups, spun rod bearing, etc) Looking forward to 2013 with a newly built engine, newly built tranny, new set up, new aero, etc...

Got lots of DE video, but that's not racing... other video's at www.naroescapemotorsports.com

There were several 914s mixing it up on the big Willow track on Sunday.
From our pit at the STREETS , near the big track back straight, we saw a good race.
Vintage Camaros, Mustangs, 510s, 240z, bmw 2002, 911+ 914.
Great entertainment while tending to our 2.0.

Trekkor,

you really ought to take the 914 vintage racing and run some wheel to wheel with it.

Brant -

I would love to race my 914 6 in historic events. I looked into it locally (SOVREN, SVRA and VSCCA) and my 914 doesn't qualify... (flairs, brakes, motor...) Trekkor and I run similar motors and now have similar bodywork since he added flairs...

It seems I could do the portland historic races based on HMSA rules, but my car has no previous race history and all of the organizations list that as a prerequisite.

I would love to see a thread on "How to race your 914 in Historic Events". (hint hint (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

Trekkor, Don't worry about banging up the headers.
I can always hook you up with a new set of MSDS (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I have scuffed my headers up a bit with my 'curb surfing'.
I welded on mini skid plates, because of that.

Great headers!

This one is just getting dialled in. We call it the Junk Yard Dog because the tub was found in a storage unit and was it was built up from parts we had around the shop. Pic from it's first 'real' race at Buttonwillow...

Gotta find a phone book to sit on...

Here's 'nuther...

2.0 four, some kind of cam (not sure who made it - pulls to about 7k), Carillo rods, Webers, etc. Got some ignition issues to work out, but so far, so good!
