I have to admit, now that I am close to sending the car out for paint, I am getting addicted to the color threads. White, Yellow, Adriatic Blue. I have some paint samples from my indecision and now am thinking, how about hood stripes! How about some of that yellow or silver, stripeing the Adreatic Blue? Anyway, I searched and found many threads on side stripes, but the racing stripes are not as well covered. So, Post your racing stripes here, I also learned they are the fastest cars!

Fantastic thread. I'm hoping to stripe my narrow body car (or something) instead of a respray.

So I am being a little dangerous here, and I like the nostalgic look of the 65 Shelby GT 350. Doing a little research here I found out that those are a tapered stripe. I am sure that has something to do with why they are so striking, even though they are plain to to eye.

However, The Shelby is a bigger car. So I thought to make it look right I would have to scale them down for a 914.

The Stripes on the Shelby start at 9.25" and run to 10.5" at the Windshield. They run over the roof but I will disregard that. They pick up at the front edge of the rear deck @ 10.375" and end at the rear deck edge at 10.00 even. They have 2" of seperation.

The Shelby is 181.5 " Long vs the 914 @ 159.4 approx 13.8% longer. The Shelby is 68.1" Wide vs the 914 @ 65. so the Shelby is only 4.7" wider.

So this is what I am thinking, taking the Shelby Dimmensions and scaling
From this
9.25
10.5
10.375
2"

to
8.878 or converting to MM 223.2
9.975 253.35
9.985 254.42
9.5 241.3
1.90 .48

So I figured it was probably better to scale for the witdth than the overall length.
But I am unsure about this.

Before I have these cut, does any one want to check my math, sanity, thought process, etc.

Centered on the car these should frame the Porsche Logo, actually at 48mm the emblem wont fit but I don't intend to put one on anyway, and make it inside of the headlight buckets.

Like this:

My question is what do you think of the taper, has anyone done that? Will the look scale cleanly and did I scale it correctly?

Thanks
John
