Everyone's experience is different.
Their 914 BBS isn't active at all. I quit subscribing to their mailing list a looong time ago. The racing list, however, I read. Whatever floats your boat, really. |

I'm a lifetime member, too. Rennlist used to be THE place for 914 owners. I suspect it still has a large 914 mailing list, but the traffic is pretty light.
Personally, I like the 914 Rennlist and enjoy chatting there. Join and decide for yourself! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) -Rusty (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif) |

They do support 914s and P-cars in general though and thats a good thing.
Also they have a good website hosting service... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Every reputable venue of 914 information, goods, and services deserves our support. This forum (bbs, whatever (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ) currently has the most traffic, by a significant margin, but this was not always the case, and it may not be the case in the future.
Some have accused the Bird, and Rennlist of being 'too commercial', but they are businesses. Wayne and Co. sell parts, and John D. sells the services of the Rennlist, and their internet presence supports those functions. That doesn't mean that we can't use the services they provide. I buy parts from Pellican (and other vendors), and send Rennlist a check for membership. I don't have to, but I feel that by providing positive reinforcement they will continue to provide services that I value. Agreed, their support of the 914 community is not as great as it once was, but the taildraggers and waterpumpers provide a much greater percentage of their business than we do, and they are trying to make a living through their efforts. It's not like Porsche, or PCNA who look at you like you have three heads or a dread disease if you say you have a 914 Rant over... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) Harvey |

QUOTE(Brad Roberts @ Nov 4 2004, 09:30 AM) Which one of you deleted my post ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I was serious. I thought he was joking. I didn't... what did you post? Usually, I don't care what you have to say here, but now I'm curious (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) RennList's 914 e-mail list used to be the best. I had a great time there and I think most of us subscribed there at one time or another. Things just evolved, and obviously, people like our format better at this point in time. I'm sure some day, when we (the admins) grow tired of it or don't keep up with what our members want, there will be someone else to set up something new somewhere else. Right now, 914club is the best place to be (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif) |

I still get Rennlist on digest mode. However, I do find this to be superior because of the pictures. |

I'm a rennlist lifer too. Because of the problems I was facing a few months ago and continue to struggle with I stopped getting the email lists. I will though go back to their BBS especially when I can finally get my tail dragger or water pumper. I'll even thow some money their way when I have a little excess. My plan is to offer some tees or rc cars for auction with monies going to rennlist. I'll also do the same for here is need be.
I like rennlist for the local connections. |

I'm a card carrying paid in full rennlist member, but I haven't subscribed to the list in 6 months at least, and haven't gone to the website in almost that long.
I used to really enjoy the mailing lists (914 and 911) but grew tired of both as there was more and more chatter and less and less substance. Yes, I was responsible for some of the chatter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Like many others here, I was a long time rennlist member. And at that time, it was a great resource. I had had my 73 for about 6mths when someone at work mentioned rennlist to me. I got a lot of help as I did various maintenance things and I was definitely way more successful at it than I had any right to expect. And I owe a debt to many of the folks who coached me in those days. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)
At that time, the email format worked really well for me too -- I was flying a lot, so downloading 50 message and reading them on the plane was perfect for me. I also thought the 914 list was pretty unique, as compared to the 911 list. We didn't often discuss waxing techniques or the use of toothbrushes in detailing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) And we certainly had the corner on anything related to "stainless steel brake lines" -- Hi Ben (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . But the addition of pics is a huge step forward. In those days, I could scan pictures and point to my local web pages to share them -- this is big when you're trying to figure out something! Now with digcams so cheap and a web medium, the email list scheme doesn't compete very well. So I think YaRoon said it well -- for today's technology and dynamic, 914club is in the sweet spot. If I start flying again (which looks likely), I'll have to figure out something different. (hopefully, the airline Co's will have deployed web access by then (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)) kim. |
