Paint a fender washer black and put it under the grill and pop rivet to install. That should easy. Might need a small dab of gummy non stick on the back to keep it from moving around on the grill. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

Allright! Got my badge in the mail (see attached pic - not the exact same year, but I figure it's period correct enough). Any tricks to attaching these? I am assuming that step #1 is to remove the rain tray. Thanks Remove Rain Tray, Seller should have provided you with Brass Bolts, Washers & Nuts. |

The badges sold by Michael Keil are truly exquisite. Sporty and gem-like. I'd love to have one or two for my 914. Some of those designs go straight back to 1920s futurism and constructivism, which really launched what we think of as modern graphic design.
I wonder if we of 914world could put together one or two such badges for ourselves. I know a few people that specialize in that kind of design. But it's mysterious to me how to go from something designed on a computer to something so gorgeous with metallic shine and colorful enamel. Food for thought. |

The grill is a bit concave, though. Worried it will rub/scratch the grill finish. Guess I can back it with some rubber material.

PCA grill badge. I was at a Starbucks last week and a guy who was a former 914 owner from the 70's told be about his 914. When he saw my small PCA window decal, he said he had an original PCA metal badge that he never got to use.
Next day he brought it and it's found a new home. Kind of a weenie question, here, butI have always liked the vintage grill badge on old Porsches. Anybody have one on their teener? What's period correct? Here is the finished product. Very easy install - wish they were all this simple. Keil was great to work with. Attached thumbnail(s) |

I recieved this badge in the early '80's from a buddy of mine, who had gotten two of them from the Factory. One was for his Speedster, the other for his '67 911S. From what I was told, all you had to do was provide mileage and proof of ownership. His were bove original cars. He liked the 914 (imagine that of a Speedster and '67S owner), and even bought a 914 for his son.
Said he only needed one, but I had to wait until I hit the 100K km mark to mount it. I did so in 1988, and it's been there since. Bud (his name) wrapped his Honda around a tree coming home from dental surgery, so the real truth may be unknown. Whatever, he was a mentor about all things Porsche to me in my late 20's and the badge means huge things to me. I wear it with the PCA enamelled badge that I got when I joined PCA in 1973. The fasteners on the rear side are the same as used to mount the 914 insignia on the rear. It's so cool to see these other badges too. Attached thumbnail(s) |
