I guess my Betsy with 39K and a seatbelt buzzer that still works and a defrost switch that still lights up is only worth 2500.00 since she needs a paint job. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Most of these cars are now pushing 40 years of age.

Many, many, many of them on the "open" market (not being sold within a group such as this one) have been ridden hard, put away wet....and ARE really, really disappointing to look at....even for some of us who have been afflicted by these cars since about when they first came out.

Patience, grasshopper....after I had to sell my first one, and got out of the market, it took me years to find a worthy candidate....then I learned of this site. Had I known of it sooner, I would have shortened up the search by a lot....

Keep your ear to the ground, eyes on the site, ask around, and you will find one you will NOT be disappointed in....and spend a bit more on a good one, than less on a suspect one...

One point that hasn't come up.
Hasn't the European market had a major impact our values?

Europe finally figured out what we've known for a long time.

Let's pull it back a tad here gang.

We sometimes don't realize how our words can be utilized if they are not coming out of our mouth. I'm a big one for that. Many don't know my tongue in cheek style. It seems like I was misinterpreted when I added my point about values... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

The tread title can be a little abrasive for a 914 guy, especially when one is describing what we've been seeing as a $4k car for... well, $4k. That said, most here seem to be trying to help.

I think you can find it if you keep looking. As others have posted here, they're out there. An honest "Good Luck" and "Carry On" is in order.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) Gaspump. It's always nice to put a name in your signature so we know who we're talking to (yelling at, slandering, etc.) and who's talking to (yelling at, slandering, etc.) us. We're happy you're an experienced and knowledgeable guy. There's a bunch more here so, maybe you'll decide to fit in. I've owned 914's for over 30 years and there's a ton of guys here who simply put me to shame with their experience with these cars.

Relax. Join the crowd and have fun.

I"m relaxed and looking to join the crowd. I have opinions, just that. When I see a car that I think is a POS, that's my opinion. My mouth, when opened, has gotten me into more trouble than I want to admit. But that's just me. My first day of looking, I looked at 4 cars, none of which was owned by any member on this board. They all needed a lot of work. Fine, just not for me. I know I've come to a site run by fanatics, people who absolutly love these cars. That's why I'm here, to learn more about them. I'm old school and stuck there, like it or not. I don't beleive I offended any member of this board, and if so, sorry. Im talking in general terms about the car hobby, not 914's specific. Now, back to my search. By the way, the name is Bill.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) Bill,
As it has been said in many posts and publications about Porsche cars, buy the best one you can afford, it will save you money in the long run.

Amen to that. The cheapest option is more expensive on the front end

the linked red conversion @ $10.5k got your attention bill. is that a realistic number for you? read about the 71' fs. no matter what, for a remote car make arrangements for a member near the car to look at it for you. offer some sort of compensation for their time. or buy a plane ticket and fly in and see for yourself.

I've had some offers from members to look at cars for me. I appreciate that. Yes, that red car peeked my attention, but cant get more info on it, even from members who know the car, or have tried to contact the owner. Oh well, back to the search./

I looked at my first 914 yesterday. Now I'm not new to the 914, having followed them since they were new. But never owned one. This one was rust free, and at around $4000, I thought it might be nice. I guess my idea of nice and his is a bit different. I was, am, looking for a runner to fix up and play around with, but this was too much for the average back yard wrench. It rode nice, hard, but had a Bursche ??? muffler which was LOUD, and probably toast. If I were to buy it, I would have to have taken the entire car apart and cleaned/updated/buffed everything on the car to make it nice. It's just me, I guess I'm anal when it comes to cars, they have to be fine. And if I sell one, you can bet it's in better shape then when I bought it. That would have cost about $2-3000 dollars. It neede a complete paint job, seats, bumper rubber. I have been out of this (914) market for a while, but from what I see, the really good examples have really gone up in value. I;'ll keep looking for the right car and I'm in no rush. To those who have nice examples, keep them going and you're in the drivers seat.

lets see..... maybe you should not get a 914 if you feel that those who own them think they are worth too much for the condition the cars are in.

maybe you should look at classic corvettes.... no the market on those is crazy expensive.

how about classic mustangs, maybe a fastback...... lol !

or how about a nice tr6.....

i know, a miata.... there you go! you can spend 4k on a high mileage car that needs a top and interior.

you are too late in the game to get a "cheap" deal on a 914 for what you see as a reasonable price and car, you should have moved on these back in the early 90's!

You should quadrouple that if it's in good condition.

Oh Messix, thanks for coming in so late in this conversation. GO FUCK YOURSELF. iI guess you are one of those who have a piece of shit rust/over 914 who wants too much and thinks too much of their cars to know what their worth. Did you not notice that Im not looking for a CHEAP 914, I guess that must have passed over your little head. Thanks for your reply and I'm out of here. You can take your little 914 and shove it up your ass.

Not a good way to make friends here with that comment.

Without the people that joined a long time ago and have stayed on when 90% of Members have gone bye-bye, there would not be a 914World. If you don't want any comments you should join the crickets on the other site.

I hope that it doesn't happen, but I see you as someone that is half-assed interested & will disappear & have nothing to offer long-term
