I've been noticing a slight rattle from around the middle of the engine and I've not been able to find the source until this morning. I removed the oil filler neck and found a plug inside the area just below it. I won't mention any names but the only mechanics who worked on this car before I bought it are billed as 914 experts and are north of Macon, GA by about 100 miles. I know this because the car has been in the family since it was new. These guys never cease to amaze me. Sheesh!
Anyway, I've know it's a plug because Pelican Parts says so. Anyone have any idea where it went? The part number is 022 115 486. Just curious because I can't seem to figure out what was being worked on when it ended up in there.

If you mean that flat plug that goes below the breather fitting, it could have easily just vibrated loose. The heat cycles harden the plastic and they pop out.

I don't think I would blame a mechanic for that.

I went through the same thing when I found that same plug in the oil filler area of my engine. It seems that it is common that it falls off. No harm done as there is nowhere for the plug to go. It is #9 in the pic below.

I stand corrected... But I'm still not impressed with anything from that shop.
