Welcome.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) You've come to the right place.
Just fire away with your questions. Using the search function gets old. You will get to know the "vocal" club members much faster by posting questions. B |

Hey,
I'm fairly new too, with my first 914, which I've owned for about 6 weeks. Had a '72 VW bus a couple of years back... but I like this one better... even though I haven't been able to drive it much. I've had a few challenges right off the bat... but the folks in here have been absolutely great. Awesome technical resources, good parts resources and a lot of support. When you get a chance, put up a picture so we can see your teener. Welcome aboard!!! Carlos |

So Then I guess I will ask my first Question...
What fits the 914? I know it has a type 4 VW bus engine.... I have a 2 liter dropped in my 72, and just wondering, if an exhaust system from any VW will fit or not? What VW parts ar fittable? Where to shop on-line for the other stuff that cannot be fitted on the teener? Tks. |

Dont preview your pics before you post and make sure they are not HUGE pics.
Oh... the 2.0 914 engine only shares its crank and rods with the bus engines. B |

Welcome to 914world.com
There's a "FAQ" link at the very top of the page. It has all the info you should need on "how to post pics" and then some If that still doesn't cut it for you, don't hesitate to ask... cheers, Jeroen |

Welcome to the 914Garage…glad you are local. We have great bay area 914 community and it all starts on this forum…
Sounds like you have the very rare 2.0L bus engine option… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) All factory 2.0L 914 engines are not bus engines, but are actually VW type 4 engines reengineered by Porsche. Porsche was looking for a means to replace similar performance of their 914/6 engines which were discontinued in 1972. So they took the previous 1.7L VW 4 cylinder engines and redesigned them. Better heads, bigger stroke, bigger pistons…and a better exhaust system. 95 fuel-injected ponies was the result, all in the right powerband. Bus engines were made for low-end torque…while its not unheard of previous owners installing bus engines into the 914…it is not optimum. |

Welcome! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif)
As far as parts places... there are the usual suspects: Zims, Paragon, GPR, Pelican, AA, Mid-America (Tweeks). Your FLAPS won't carry a lot of stuff, but sometimes they surprise me. Everyone has their favorite (and least favorite) places to shop.. a quick search on any of those names will reveal lots of data. eCommerce is coming soon... and that will bring lots of parts to our doorstep. welcome to the club....
it seems like we are getting more 914 owners in the Pleasanton/Livermore area, which is good thing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) not sure if you belong to the PCA yet, but if not, there is a weekly breakfast in Danville every Sat....it's mostly 911 guys, but half of them have owned a 914 at one time or another....a few 914 people show up once in a while including myself Denny's 803 Camino Ramon, Danville CA (on corner of Sycamore Valley & Camino Ramon) |

Welcome to the club, your gonna like it here, lots of helpfull advice. I got my 914 in August and have just recently been able to drive it, what a blast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) That will end today when I start getting it ready to replace the tired 1.7 with a 2.0. had to call the wife for a tow home last night. Couldn't have done half the things I have without this place.
Oh yeah, everyone here likes pics. |
