Tom T mentioned his clock in the console was a non-quartz clock. I had never seen one in my 25+ years of playing with 914's. I finally have one to share with the World. It is based on the 911 clock of the time period with the plastic rear housing. It is the same clock part used in VW model clocks also. I added the late metal housing quartz clock as a reference

Yes--the Kienzle--it is an electro-mechanical clock. I have one in my 73 2.0.

Most likely from a later year car.

Date stamp of 11-72. That would make it a 73 model year.

Nice score!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) .. yes, they changed in74 MY to the Quartz Zeit. The Kienzle's were considered very reliable, but the quartz more accurate & simpler mechanism, which was probably cheaper, as was the change from glass to plastic gauge lenses on the 3 pod instruments.

North Hollywood Speedo & Palo Alto Speedo can convert the innards of the earlier 911/912 & 914 to quartz & keep/restore the face as Kienzle - if you're having any VDO instruments repaired &/or restored by them.

More good MY fitment info here:
http://p914.com/p914_gauges_clock.htm

BTW - the Kienzle will probably have a bit more current draw - being mechanical - than the Quartz Zeit, for those who drive their 73 914's & others with the early clock infrequently, & don't use a trickle charger/maintainer
