I am not sure if anyone has brought this up before but they have been implementing speeding/red light cameras down here for some time now and unfortunately I have been nabbed several times (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Every time I get one I am always tempted to go fight it but seeing as it doesnt hit your record or you insurance it is usually just easier to log on to the website and pay the darn thing.

I have always heard of people getting out of them by sending letters saying that there is no violation of contract between you and the ticketing company (in my case photonotice.com) and siting that the company itself is not a legal entity and the ticket was never issued correctly by a ticketing officer. I also always want to question the most recent calibration records for said camera.

Anyways, has anyone ever had luck with this? I am not against paying the price of breaking the law and I dont normally speed excessively but I hate speed traps in little towns designed just to do that, trap you. Also, if I am going to pay something I would like to speak with an officer and at least ask to see his radar gun and check his calibration sticker.

Common in OK rural small towns too, & locals will tell you where to look out.

Oddly enough, Wash DC is one of the worst using those BS traffic cams, as I found out on a biz trip in Oct. on what looked like a freeway/parkway, which reduced from 65 mph to 50 at the district border & the sign was obscured by trees/brush!

Unfortunately, being in a rental car I didn't get notice until 2 months later & had no way to object to the ticket & obscured sign, but I was nailed at 65 - which I thought was still the correct speed limit.

Frankly, those cameras are just a govt. sponsored revenue enhancement scam, as I found out in researching that one in DC online, and from our local SoCal cities' experiences.

Several legal challenges & the cities not making the promised revenue from these private traffic cam companies has caused several SoCal cities to drop theirs & remove them.

A friend of mine sent me a letter to send but I guess Im just nervous about getting pulled over in this town again and ending up paying even more. I have also heard that if you contest the tickets they usually tack on the late payment because it takes them past the due date to reject your request.

Had a friend who received a red light ticket for $285. They mailed a picture of his car in the intersection.

He took a picture of the cash and mailed that in...

Idiot ended up paying almost $500 when it was time to renew registration...

The Lawyer that got me out of my last Speeding Ticket (Regular Laser Gun, not a Camera) said that he doesn't take cases against the Red Light Cameras (we don't have Speeding Cameras yet) because he can't win them.

Maybe someone should start making the James Bond revolving License Plates

as i recall, a bunch of san jose camera issued speeding tickets had to be thrown out because something in the city charter states they have to be issued by an officer.

might be worth looking into your local city charter.

there's also some sort of coating for license plates that supposedly renders your plate too reflective to be visible to most cameras, yet isn't noticible to the naked eye.

Owner is responsible

That is not true in Colorado. My daughter got a camera ticket and since the car was registered in my name, they sent the violation notice to me in NY. Since I was not driving the car, I had to send a copy of my license and after they compared the photo to the camera image of the driver, I was released from the ticket. Though they asked if I knew who was driving, I was not required to answer that question ... so I didn't!

Mine actually has a section that you can fill out saying you were not the driver and it has a spot to put their name/address into.

Mythbusters did a show on beating the speed camera.
Nothing worked. Expensive reflective coatings, hair spray, ......
The only thing that could beat the camera was a jetcar doing 200+ mph.

Charlotte NC had to ditch the red lights cams because the company operating them was being
paid a % of fines collected. Conflict of interest !

The Escort 9500ix can download the locations of the cams and alert you.

The State of Florida is about to issue new plates that are easier for the camera to see. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I kinda like the "has to be issued by an officer" angle. No doubt some pimple faced kid is going through these and mailing out tickets.

In LA there are selling electronic transponders for use in the carpool lanes.

One day soon, cars will be giving their own owners speeding tickets.
