Hi Folks:

I'm a new member and recently made a home for a 75 914/4 in pretty good shape.
Does anyone know the stock tire size and what normal clearance between the rear
fenders and the tire sidewall would be? Secondly, the 14 has 80k miles
and the shocks and suspension have never been replaced; could that result in a sag
of the rear , allowing the body to sit lower over the tire sidewall area. The suspension
still absorbs bumps pretty well.

The clearance is only credit card width as is ! I'd appreciate any help!

A Newbie,
Bob (N.Y.C.)

congrats on the car, welcome to the board!

what size tires are on there right now?

stock size is pretty narrow (165-ish).

you can fit 195's or 205's on stock rims. go for a -55 or -60 aspect, unless you're into hi-performance stuff. then, get some 205/50's...

as for the sagging, take some pics of how the car sits.

hi Newbie (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wavey.gif)

yes, a 80k suspension can sag! especially if your roads are like the roads here in CA .. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif)

as for the tire size, 205 is about the biggest you can get under the stock fenders (you probably have to roll the inner lip),
but the size depends more on the offset of your wheels than anything else.

different wheels = different offset = different max. size ...
