USN Spent all of '66 and a lot of '67 as Deck Officer on an LST that was built in 1943. Carried cement (once had a shipload of beer going to DaNang) to many parts of the Indochina penninsula. Do you have any idea how long it takes to sail from Norfolk VA to Saigon when your cruising speed is 8 knots? (that is when the engines run)

1 tour in country, mostly based at Tuy Hoa AB, RVN (on the beach next door to a VERY protective ROK regiment), got orders for Myrtle Beach, SC, so I voluntarily extended at Tuy Hoa for another 8 months. HQ, AFSC, Andrews AFB, MD for the balance of my hitch. Combat Documentary Photographer. That's like a photojournalist, only I got to fly A LOT. Spent substantial time "where we weren't", and was able to see a good part of SEA. Got out just before I sewed on E6 stripes ............. The Cap'n, formerly "The Sgt" .................... Hey, "Sgt Krusty" just doesn't have that ring to it .......... |
