Travis.....
you mentioned that you were able to "peel off" the paint with the razor blade.....as a painter myself, i would strip the car down to baremetal to start over. the paint shouldn't be peeling off like that at all...and I assumed you have no history on how it was being repainted /repaired, I wouldn't take the chance to repaint the car with the "original" primer on the car as it is very easy to screw up a decent paint job if the base (primer) aren't correct product or applied wrong (as if it wasn't mixed right or wrong choice of primer). Yes, the cost can be a factor but if you do most of the work, you could channel your moola toward the decent paints and paint job. Some people have their own way of stripping paints off, the only thing I WOULD NOT do is acid dipping the car. You can wirebrush, DA sanding or media blast (again, use the proper way for automotive panels) the paint off down to the metal surface, then bring it over to a shop to have it epoxy primed. From there, you can do the body work, etc and then have a painter splash color on the car....that maybe something you can look into. good luck.... j |

I have no history on the previous repaint, accident damage I think. I guess I will get a D/A and go nuts. What final grit should I use when I am down to metal 220-180?

QUOTE(Travis Neff @ Nov 12 2004, 10:24 AM) Wow Dipshit, 172 hours! In labor alone, then paint and materials costs - egads! Did it all myself with the help of a little IPA! Also had a free paint booth. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |
