Somebody must know, I am not getting any spark. Currently I have the wire coming from the distributor to the negative side of the coil and the hot wire is going to the positive side. Is that correct? Because if it is, there must be something else. I am not getting any spark at all.

Points work? Condensor any good? Actually getting power out of the +12 wire? Coil working?

How do you test a coil? The positive wire is direct to 12v, the negative side is coming from the points/condenser. What do I have wrong???

You would need an OHM meter to check resistance of the windings.

Since you are direct 12V to coil, is the battery ground in place to complete the circuit? (or a ground wire from neg bat to engine case)

1.) If you remove the dizzy cap and have the power hooked up to the coil with the dizzy points closed, when you push them open with a screwdriver, you should see a spark.

2.) If the power is hooked to the coil and the points are closed, the coil should get warm and eventually hot and explode.

3.) The points must open and close for the coil to work.

Efff the neighbors, there's nuthin like the roar of a four and it's only 9 PM - - - - - - 10 PM noise curfew is not in efffect. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Make sure you disconnect the direct hot lead to the coil or it will over heat and explode if your not trying to start/run the engine.

How do you know you don't have spark? Do you have a plug out looking for a spark?

Did you remember to ground the threads on the plug when looking for spark?

If you have 12v on the coil, check your gap on the points.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can check your coil like this. Every time you touch the negative coil wire to ground,
you should get a spark. Make sure the threads on the plug has a good ground when
you do this.
