Weld an oversize patch, same size patch, or rivet two 1" fender washers together from each side?

Half inch hole, not readily visable, fast and easy is some masking tape to hold a dab of silicone rubber inplace while it cures. Tough, and water proof. Of course welding an exact sized sheet metal plug in place is the "best" solution. (but would require re-doing the tar board to be "correct".) Nothing wrong with a dab of silicone in my opinion. Use black for the "professional" look!

Take a piece of brass flat stock and hold over(under) hole.
Take you mig and weld in circle until you fill the hole. Knock the brass stock off the back and gring smooth. |

You can get snap-in metal plugs at ACE Hardware. I once used plastic plugs, also from ACE, with some black silicone sealer, to plug some roll bar holes in the floor pan.

QUOTE snap-in metal plugs P Rescue, What do they look like? Not sure if there's an ACE around but I'll check Orchard Supply. If not, I'll have to scroung the sofa for quarters.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Many good suggestions! Thanks all, Felix |

Here is a pic of a half-inch plastic plug. It will snap into the hole and stay, even without using some silcone seal. I don't have any metal ones, but they appear to be chrome.
There are several types and sizes at any ACE store. You find them in metal drawers in the area with all the screws, nut, bolts etc. Probably at other hardware stores as well. Attached image(s) |
