Have'nt spoken to Pelican, but they show sets of flares as being on inventory. Does anybody have a set kicking around in their garage that they've changed their mind about and want to sell ?
I would really prefer steel. Michel Richard 914 2.2E MFI |

The ones that Pelican and AA sell are not the originals but a reproduction flare suppose to be pretty good. Just some funny wrinkles around the top where the flare is arched. Try a WTB add in the classified section. The other option is to get Sabin to help you with some custom flares.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Sabin's flares were not that bad (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) , they were not perfect but hey they worked. How about rabbit flares? I paid around 200 for the set of 4 and will get around to welding them up sooner or later...

Those wrinkles can probably be worked out easily. The metal has been gathered up as part of the forming process. If the wrinkles are not too pronounced, you can weld the flare in place, and then use many lite hits with a body hammer backed up by a dolly to shrink the ruffled metal down. A wood mallet would be a better choice than a body hammer for someone who has not done this before.
You can also make your own steel flares of virtually any design: http://allshops.org/cgi-bin/community/comm...d=9980138836765 John www.ghiaspecialties.com |

I'm kind of partial to John Kelly's style flares, and they're a bargain compared to price of steel GT's.
These aren't John's, but they look very similar (wish it was mine car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) ). Attached thumbnail(s) |

Thanks all.
I'm really looking for factory or factory-like flares. My few experiences with AA have'nt been bad, so I'll give them a call to see what they can do. Michel p.s. Lawrence, my understanding is that we're not talking $700 or $800, or am I missing something here. |

That is absolutely freakin' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) I personally think that's the best looking 914 I've ever seen. I wonder how it would look with the cooling vents like those on the black "roadster" posted in that other thread? |

Had a look at the AA website, and yes, Lawrence, you are correct. $950 for reproduction steel flares.
Pelican has the following: Original Steel Porsche Flares, Front Pair, 914 $1,255 Original Steel Porsche Flares, Rear Pair, 914 $1,360 That is why I was looking for an alternative ! Seems that one is a repro (AA), the othe an original (Pelican), which would explain the difference in price. Quite a difference. So, has anyone had an actual look at the AA repros, and are they OK ? Pelican also sells the AA repros, and last I checked it was for less than AA. I don't think they made it into the catalog, but if you call....
One or two people above have mentioned the quality. It is OK, but not stellar. The originals also aren't exactly stellar, but they are evidently a bit better than the repop'ed ones. --DD |

Thanks Dave,
I must say I would rather deal with Pelican. Michel |
