Started up my '71 and backed it out of the garage. There was a trail of something leaking on the right side. Stopped and there was a drip/drip of gas in front of the right rear tire. Turned it off and checked but could not find anything. Did a few other things that were needing done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Then restarted the car and no leak. Any ideas? Is there a pressure relief of some type or ???

Sounds like fuel pump or the lines right there. Don't ignore it. VERY bad things could happen. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Similar problem for me. TUrned out to be a bad fuel line in the left rear cylinder... (sorry, don't know cylinder numbers yet). This was the little short fuel line that goes into the injector.

Another thing to check is the fuel filter. I had one fall apart before. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Don't ignore it.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) check fuel lines to the filter and pump. (pass. side, just in front of the rear tire) ...

replace ALL rubber lines even if only one is brittle!
only use the correct FI fuel lines!
only use the correct FI hose clamps!

this is a car-fire waiting to happen ...

I had a similar fuel leak on passenger side just in front of the rear tire. Turned out a fuel line was rubbing against the
chasis and actually wore through.

Just did this fix last week.

Remove the warm air guide flapper box off the passenger side and reach up there and twist and tug on each line one at a time.

I had a line that I could pull to pieces. It should have been dumping major fuel. Only showed a drip.

Spend two hours and replace them all for thirty more years of peace of mind! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Then check the ones in the engine bay.

I had a similar problem a month ago and it turned out that the fuel pump had a small crack. It didn't leak all the time or much, but I could smell gas when I went out to the garage in the a.m. I played with new hoses and clamps for two days thinking I had the problem fixed, then the next day, again the smell. Finally took the car to my mechanic. he quickly found the problem and said it is not uncommon.

So along with everything else, give your fuel pump a good once over.

Do you know what the sizes are?

Most of them use a 7mm ID. The ones hooked up to the supply line in the center tunnel use a 9mm ID. Some use a "converter" line that goes from 9mm down to 7mm, others use a fuel filter that has a 9mm inlet and a 7mm outlet. The fittings on the pump are all for the 7mm lines.
