Okay I heard that the driver side door storage compartment thingy (sorry, I don't know what it's officially called) had some sort of a spring. I am assuming the top latch had a spring mechanism that would snap it back down.

Can someone verify this for me and maybe even provide a pic if it's true. I don't see a spring in mine and the top cover just flops down when I let go of it.

yes, it has a spring.
Its located on the inner part of the door/top/flap
at the rear.

Look at the bottom of the door and you should see a hole for it.
I believe it attaches to the screw on the lower side

Not a great pic, but the spring attaches in the slot, enters the black tube (approx 2 inches long) then enters the door panel.

The door card has a hole with a metal grommet to keep the spring from tearing through the cardboard.
