On my 1.7, I remember hearing somewhere it was like 5 quarts , but after filing a entire gallon, the dipstick is way above the full mark, maybe around 1/2". Lesson learned, man I better check it for myself, pulled the Haynes manual and it is 3.5L (w/filter change) which is 3.7 quart. So i am .3 quart over. Is this bad ?? The engine was drained.

What is the general thought, drain the extra .3 quart or is it ok to leave it ?

A lot of people fill in 4 quarts after the oil change to have enough oil for cornering so i would not worry about it at all!

If you didn't fill your filter first that will soak up some extra oil too.

On engines where the oil filter mounts vertically (up) you should always fill it with oil before mounting. This way the engine will have full oil pressure ASAP.

Actually with these engines I believe you have it backwards.

The oil pump pulls directly from the sump via the pickup.
It then BLOWS INTO the oil filter then the cooler , etc.

If you prefill the filter, then the pump has a HARDER time priming because it has to push the oil out of the filter with air.
