I would agree Andy except that eBay put that protection in place to falsely give reassurance that its safe to buy vehicles on eBay.

I understand that it's buyer beware and its up to them to know what they are getting into but I don't think it's right that instead of eBay stating that, they try to mask it by pretending they are there to help the buyers.

That wasn't a shot at you brant, just misdirected frustration with eBay's BS policy. As I get bitter in my old age, blatant lies from companies get to me more and more. Really need to learn to let them go (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I fail to see why eBay should be responsible for misrepresented items.
The *seller* is the one who should be held responsible!

eBay just provides a place for people to buy and sell.

Saying eBay should pay is like saying the state should be paying for your car accident because they provided the street you drove on.

well my body guy has decided not to take on the project, so I will sell it at a loss and move on. it is a complete original 73 2.0 so Ill post it here.
other problem is i have thousands in parts ready to go on it---pimped out 16x6 fuchs, full powdercoated 911 suspension, with full 5 lug conversion etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
lesson learned, i will never buy another ebay car, at least not sight un seen in person

SO not sure to go ahead and bite the bullet OR try to sell her to someone who needs a complete, original, excellent driving 73 for a big loss maybe i can get 3500?

I am sorry to hear that the car was not as expected. What was eBay able to do with their buyer protection on car purchases? Why can't you just get the purchase price back and have the seller pick it up?'
ebay said becuase the car is more than 10 years old they will not cover : (

Really that doesn't surprise me at all, here in Canada you don't have a leg to stand on, it is totally the buyers responsibly to know what they are buying and to have it inspected. (The exception is if you are buying a car from a dealer.)

I had a guy buy a total POS vert bug ($10K) the engine blew the same week and he brought it to me. I told him it was a rusted POS and only worth $1500 at best as a parts car. I also told him I would build him an engine, but I wouldn't install it.
He was pissed took the seller to court...and lost.

Then he went and died and I was stuck with the POS in my drive for 2 years.... another story (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
In the end the guy's son sold it for $1000 as a parts car.

true, but they should force a return sale from the liar

I'll try one more time ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Nobody here has ever bought anything *from* eBay. You bought a car *through* eBay. Not the same ...

If you go to your local Saturday morning farmers market and you buy a unopened box of tomatoes from a vendor and you don't inspect them until you get home and then you find they're all rotten, do you then immediately go to city hall to try to get your money back from the city?

Because in the example above, city hall is just like eBay, they provide the marketplace for vendors and customers.

Displacing blame and responsibility onto eBay will not get you anywhere.
Instead, you should be going after the vendor who screwed you.

Decide what is your comfort level for loss and take extra precautions above that level. If I was buying a 914, I would go to see the car in person if over $2k. Under $2K, I will trust pictures, Under $200, I just need an adress to pick up.

Bill makes a good point about continuing with repairs, (and yes, I saw where your guy backed out). From Bills point of view; if this is a car that you love what would it cost in today's $$ to buy something close to it. 20K would be a steal. Plus knowing that the rust bug was put to sleep and you now have a nice car. My 2 cents; get a roller and transfer over you newly purchased bling along with the desirable parts from old Rusty. I saw one between Homeland and Hemet that appeared very nice in the jack points as well as other places I could see. Couldn't disassemble it on the side of the road. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) His $ was 3500.00 but I bet you could get chisel him down to 2k or less. Point is that you can pick up a nice roller in SoCal and transfer your goodies to it in a few weekends. BTW, the seller isn't a member here, is he?

well so I have dug around in the longs and the hellhole and my body guy and myself feel to make her perfect its gonna be 12k including all welding and beautiful paint. you can see photos if you check my other posts. she is a very original un-tampered with 73 2.0 so seems a great donor BUT they guy on ebay 'porsche-doctor' ripped me off on her at 7500. SO not sure to go ahead and bite the bullet OR try to sell her to someone who needs a complete, original, excellent driving 73 for a big loss maybe i can get 3500?

In the interim you will have a car you can enjoy every day.

The Problem there is - That Interim will be spent in a Body Shop for a Term of 18 Months (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Sounds like you're a good shade tree mechanic, if you planned to change the suspension etc etc. It's not hard to be a shade tree welder. Harbor Freight for a couple hundred have the welding tools. Google how to weld and watch a dozen videos, practice and then call Restoration Design for the preformed metal. If you can give up the summer to have a super fun car....go for it.

Give us the right pictures and we'll give you the how to! Look at the restoration threads and see what everyone has done in your case. You can see the repair done before you ever start.

Can we see the bad? and Good Luck

I see nothing in the ad to indicate that the seller falsified any information. The car was being sold as is.
100% the purchasers fault for not doing due diligence and paying for a proper inspection.

I agree with you Chris. It's always buyer beware. I just think saying that the hell hole only had surface rust was BS.

Its a shame that I cannot talk to another grown man and get a straight story, thats what im saying.
