Front fender replacement, How much (estimate)? Options

I want to replace the front left and right fenders and would like to know if anyone has had the work done for them, and a ballpark of cost.
I could drill out the spot welds myself and remove them to lessen the cost.

Any experience and a guesstimate of the cost is appreciated.

The big question is how far back (toward the door) do you need to go? That's the hard part, and you can save a lot if you don't need to go all the way back.

Keep an eye on my build thread. I just bought two replacement fenders for my car. Scotty should be installing them pretty soon. I would suggest you contact him and see what it takes in time. If nothing else I am sure Scotty will document the installation which may help if you tackle it yourself.

Just spotted this thread. I never drill spot welds unless I can't get to it any other way. I carefully grind the spot welds and use a sharpened screw driver and split them. This way you leave the panel your going to attach the new part to intact and not full of thin metal with holes through them. Your not using a center punch on the panels and distorting the panel you want to save.

Sandy was talking about wanting to come down to the metro for a day. I could stop over and give you some guidance.

BTW: Why are you changing the fenders? I've repaired some serious damage without changing a thing.

I ended up changing half of the drivers side fender after fixing the front half.

Oh and never NEVER cut a fender off of a unit body car before the crash damage is stress relieved. You end up with trapped damage in the chassis.

Here's a link to sectioning the fender. This is the hardest part of the 914 fender is the rear section. But with careful planning it can be done with little to no filler.

Not knowing why your replacing the fenders, what condition the car will be in when it arrives at a shop, ( what the attachment surface would be like) What the used parts would be like after trimming, it is not possible to give you a ball park on cost. But if you budget 40-60 hours to trim the used parts, trim the fenders your changing, weld, grind, file and finish to primer you should not have any surprises.
