Have my front bumper off to replace the pad and saw the brackets, wiring etc for the fog lights.
I don't have the grills and the bumper is black with a cut out for the radiator. (v8 car) Are there any good quality, economical, good looking, rectangular fog lights that someone has used and are happy with? Photos? I also want to repaint the front bumper while I am at it. Is the matte black krinkle finish the standard or could it look good gloss black? Its a 74 with no "tits" Zambizi (sp) Green. Thanks, George |

I dont' remember that I've seen pictures of rectangular lights in the bumper of the early cars, but I'm sure somebody has done it. Just the other day somebody posted either pictures or a link to pictures of his big-bumper car with lights in the cutouts.
I mounted an angle iron bracket between the bumper and the front valence to mount these: Harvey Attached image(s) |

George,
I've never put rectangular lights on the 914, but have used a variety of them (Bosch, Hella, Marchal, Cibie) on volvos, audis, etc. Marchal and Cibie seem to be far better than the others. Right now I'm running Cibie 95s on our 91 Volvo, Cibie 35s on the Quattro, and Marchal 750s on the Volvo V8. Picture of the Cibie 95s follows. Steve A- Attached image(s) |

And here are the Marchal 750s on the "fjord." The 95s are a little larger, and put out more light, but may not fit the "holes." The Marchal 750s and Cibie 35s should fit the spaces in the 74 bumper. I'll see if I can put a spare 750 on my car and send you a picture (may take til the weekend though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

Steve, Thanks for the pics.
Which V8 is in your Volvos? I always thought that was a good conversion. I was real close to putting a v8 in a Mercedes 300D Wagon. Someone hit the car hard a totaled it though. George |

Hi George,
It's an '89 Ford (Fjord?) 5.0 HO. Right now it's hooked to a modified AOD with a 3.73:1 anti-spin rear. I did the work in late 1995. It's my bride's car--and she loves it (good thing, as we're trying to hold what we have until both our boys are through with school--5 years +/-). I'll try to get photos of the fog light and 914 later (maybe tonight). Best, Steve A- |

I've seen it a few times...
I stumbled on this picture with rectangular lights over in our classified section! http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act...ST&f=20&t=20254 |

OK George, I found a couple of spares--a cibie 95 (lens/reflector) and a Marchal 750 (whole light). Here's what they look like in front of the fog light grill. First the cibie 95:

Rectangular lights only look good on boxy, squarish kinds of cars..

As you can see, the 95 (bottom) is a little bigger, and this doesn't show the frame (see pic of blue volvo, above, for view of complete assembly).

The 95 is also a good bit deeper. Not sure if it would clear the horn, but those could be moved . . . .
They both use the same bulb (H2 55w). The Cibie 95 is a little better performer, but the trade is that it takes a little more real estate. Cibie also makes a model 35 ("Airport") that's the same size as the marchal 750. I've been able to find these on ebay once in a while. The 750s were used on a variety of cars (Mustangs, Capris, Jeeps, etc)--more lights, but more demand and higher prices. Hope this helps! Steve A- Attached image(s) |

This is the best photo I have of rectangular fog lights on a teener that didn't have the late model big bumpers.
