Yeah, I figure I can tack the piece in with the mig and then finish it nice with the tig and just put a small tungston in the torch...good idea on the goggles, and I have had my share of welding tans, but mostly on my arms and neck, not on the face yet

Sounds like you have done some very similar repairs, how much bracing did you do on the car before you started cutting and welding?

I am hoping to get most of the metal needed and knock out the welding in a good weekend, possible or am I crazy?

I'd put in door braces while fabbing everything up and verify the factory dimensions before welding everything in. One of the biggest mistakes I've seen is when people throw the car on jackstands and start welding away. Then the car only comes out as square as the concrete is level. I know for a fact my garage floor isn't flat. If it does need to be up on stands, I'd take a long time to shim everything to be as accurate as possible.

As long as you are just shooting for structural reinforcement, I don't think it should take more than a weekend. There will be some rust left inside, but a thorough dose of Ospho and nice thick reinforcements will last a very long time. Then paint over everything with por15 or rustbullet. I've grown to like the rustbullet because it seems to hold up as well as por15, but isn't as picky with prep procedure. I'm sure everything will come out fine if you take your time. Good Luck.

What’s the scariest thing you can find in a 914? …… a metal studded snow tire as a spare.
