Here I go again... 75 914/4 2.0

My heater blower motor (that mounts in the rear engine area next to the relay board) only has ONE output opening for a hose.

I don't see in any of the PET or online places that such a motor even exists. All the ones I see have two ports for hose connections.

So, am I missing parts or is this another oddity?

BTW - I'm 90% certain I have a CA car.

Yours is the correct one for a 75. Only one outlet.

They switched to a one outlet blower in later years and blocked off the passenger side air inlet.

The earlier style two outlet blower mounts directly to the engine (with a bracket).

I'm doing this from memory. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The very early models had two outlets on the fan 180 degrees from each other. 72 or 73 and later had one outlet. The hose ran to the drivers j tube, and the passengers was blocked off. In 75/76 there was a two way splitter that fit on the single outlet and supplied a hose to both sides. I'm not sure if all late cars came with the splitter or not.

Auto Atlanta sells a heater blower kit with Y adapter for the single outlet fan.

If you don't care about heat or defrost then leave it alone. I installed this in my car and it does help with defrost and warming my passengers toes.

The 70-72 fans had two outlets, 180-degrees from each other.

The 73-74 cars had fans with a single outlet, hooked only to the driver's side J-tube. The passenger's side one was capped with a plastic cap that had the VW logo and a part number on it.

The 75-76 cars had the single-outlet fans, but there was a splitter attached to that single outlet so hoses could run to the J-tubes on both sides.

The OP's car could be an early-75 that was using the 74-style parts because they were on hand. There are a number of other instances of similar things happening around model-year transitions.

Ok that makes sense - keep the passenger awake, put the driver to sleep.

My '75 1.8L has the single hose with the passenger side capped...but I've also noted that my vacuum hoses match up with the diagram for the 74 more so than the diagram for the 75 (only a single vacuum line on the air plenum)...so maybe I've got one of those tweener year teeners.

Not really. The heat is still hooked up from the exchanger just no blower to "help" push the warm air along. My 70 doesn't have any blower installed and as long as I'm moving I have plenty of heat. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yep, the blower is just for when idleing. It's called an auxiliary fan.
