I think you'll have trouble finding guys who actually installed the body on their cars. Why, do you have a kit that has not been installed? Here's a pic of my car. I didn't install the body, it was done long ago in a far off land. Hopefully it will get painted in the next year.

Here is mine, and yes, I installed panels on Joes too. Joe's isnt finished either but mine is a lot further along than his. It's a lot of work but I have wanted one since the 80's when I first saw one. Mine are a little different however. I didnt like the big thick sail panels. I cut them down to keep the rear body lines. Here is a picture of the ones I have been working on. Then I will post a picture of my favorite one that I am trying to build mine like.

QUOTE(MattR @ Dec 6 2004, 09:19 PM) Scott, is she gonna make it to the fun run? I dont think I want to chance it just yet. I have not even got to break it in yet. It would be foolish to try to drive it a couple hundred miles right out of the gate. Maybe next time. Besides, I am so busy this week I wont have time to work on it at all. I am getting ready to head off to work again. |

My 1st gen Chalon with fabricated aluminum rocker panels, no curved b-pillars, 911 flag mirror, 15x8 fuch replicas and Koenig 914 seat. I'm happy with it except for the neglect to the paint, some rust, and the cracks that need to be addressed. Make sure you reinforce the chassis for flex, treat all rust areas, and bond the pieces well when installing the kit (if you have one). Installed kits may already hide problems so inspect thoroughly. I've outgrown the 911 turbo styling but it's still a cool car...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_bump.gif) Those are some awesome cars!!!! So Skyline, what pitfalls have you encountered while installing these beauties. What would it take in time for someone that knows their way around a car????
Great job!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) |

Scott; are you going to paint your car the same color as the grey one? What color is it? I want a medium color to lessen the contrast with the black parts but I don't want all black.

What would it take in time for someone that knows their way around a car???? Great job!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Pitfalls? Buy orginal parts from the original manufacturer for best fit and finish, follow the directions included with the kit and do make sure you start with a good chassis. With rust in the longs, the body will flex a lot and cause cracking. Chassis stiffening will help keep it from flexing. The car Joe has was a perfect 1975 with no rust in the longs at all. He thought there was some rust from the battery tray so when we went to replace it, it took him a couple of hours to get the old one out. Not as rusted as it appeared. The kit on Joe's car, I bought used from a guy up in Northern California. Wasnt that hard to install once I got the fiberglass off the metal parts. He cut it off the car and when he did, he cut the metal not the fiberglass so I had good parts to work with. That was before I found out that Mitcom is actually still around and even local to me. I live in Costa Mesa and there are a lot of boat manufacturers and repair places so I have a lot of shops that sell the materials I needed. Use the fiberglass cloth rather than the mat, the mat can break up easy and the cloth wont. If you have any fiberglass experience, then it is a walk in the park. |
