I have not been keeping up with values and I need to empty my garage.
I was talking to some sucker the other day and he thinks he wants to by my car, but I have no idea what to ask..........

1971 1.7

Body:
It has paint
Chrome bumpers
Western Wheels
Rust Free, Dent Free

Mechanical:
Has not been started in 5 years
Was running when I parked it, but has a burnt harness on the fire wall caused by a short at the starter
Engine is an undocumented rebuild with 500 miles and a single carb

I have enough parts lying around to fix what's broken, but I dont have enough time. (including a new gas tank, harness, etc....)

Any guidance would be appreciated.

As a side note, what is the going rate on 2.0 long block (core) with FI?

Thanks.

real no rust? $4k + dependent where the buyer lives. i looked at 2 cars this past weekend. local CL. a yellow one (lynnwood)@ 3.2k and green one (north bend)@ $2.8 (? can't remember off hand). parts cars (to me) that you would be lucky to break even on at severely reduced prices. for local guys...the green 75' does NOT have the 911 front suspension as advertised. re-drilled and studded front and rear brakes. rust-o-plenty on both too. save your gas and time...

If that is THOMAS'S old car and it's rust free; I'd say $4k - 5K to a knowlegable buyer. He did a lot of upgrades and maintenance as I remember. Good luck with the sale, sorry to see to leaving the 914 World.

Not the 2.7 Eggplant in my avatar.

It's some other car I seemed to have collected over the years (before kids). I forgot I had it until I saw the pink slip in my Haynes Manual the other day.

If it really is "rust free" you should document fully.

Pull seats. some carpet.

Pull rockers.

Clean crap away from hell hole and take a BUNCH of pics.

With all the metal repair that these cars usually require a really clean uni-body should be worth more IMO.

5k would NOT be overcharging IMO!

Almost no professional shop will do metalwork to the level that most enthusiast want.
Find one that can do it right and they will be expensive...

Finding a near perfect car is 1 out of 1000 on anything 50 years old...

I paid 8k for a pretty clean 31k 75 1.8. This is a stocker and the ONLY reason I paid as much as I did was chassis condition...
It has a little bit of rust anyways, just not in the usual spots...

You move quick....10 years to get it done!

I do think the prices are slightly higher now.

Engine..dunno but 300 still seems right to me, but I am cheap and I have quite a few of them laying around.
I would use the crank and case....replace the rest.

Car...who know nowadays.

Rich
