I'm getting ready for a clutch cable tube repair so I'm working on getting the tunnel cleared off. Getting the factory console off is pretty easy except for one little thing - how do I get the red heater knob off so I can get the bottom of the console out? The knob won't fit through the slot (I've tried to see if there was that much give) so the knob's got to come off, but no amount of prying will get it to move. I for sure don't want to damage it. Anyone have any ideas?
FWIW, it's about 45°F outside today, but I figure the heater knob is probably 32°F at best since the car is in my north-facing carport and never gets any direct sunlight. Plastic is definitely not malleable in these temps. |

Well, duh! It never occurred to me that it was threaded since the lever is a flat piece of steel. Of course these things are obvious once you know!
In the meantime I've been fooling with the clutch tube to see where it was broken off / loose. It turns out the tube isn't short - it was just broken off at all 3 points where it is supposed to be secured. I just pulled the whole tube out through the hole in the firewall! Thinking very unkind words about the DAPO right now - and thinking that I'll never discount a clutch tube repair again when calculating the value of a 914 that I'm about to buy! Thanks guys!
