Trying to do a little cleanup on my new 914.

I was looking at the headlight surrounds and they are a faded gray. I've seen on ebay everything ranging from black to the same gray as mine.

Is gray correct? Or is that just the black being faded?

Thanks!

Later '73 cars (like mine) had black surrounds, so I think it depends on the build date.

May depend on the color of the car. That is likely why some have black and some have white.

OK great. Yes mine are a whitish-gray. Took them off and same on the backside, so I just cleaned them up and left them alone.

Thanks!

Not saying that it's impossible for your white surrounds to be original because there are several documented 914 part switch anomalies, but that's pretty late for white surrounds. The common belief is that the switch happened some time in the middle of the model year, probably coinciding with the switch to black threshold rails.
