Went by Ray Stephens shop today to take a look at a members car to see how it was coming along. I walked out with a woodie touching my ankle. He has it up in the air on a lift getting ready to restore the underside. The top and inside have already been painted and it is absolutely gorgeous. I think you will agree. The owner is a member here and is away in Japan for a year while his car is being rebuilt. Here are a few pictures for you porn guys. I hope you like green, if you dont, you will after seeing this.

The lot outside the door. Ray was the one on the left by the way. He is a factory trained Porsche mechanic and was trained on the 914's when they were new. He is one of the best.

Yeah it's looking kinda good Scott. I'm stateside for a few days and stopped by Ray's to have a look. Must have just missed you.

The underside cleaned up better than I thought and there were no surprises. Painter did a great job. So far so good.

Wheels are on their way to the refinisher. I have 195/65 tires now but am thinking of 205/50s. I'd go totally retro with 185/70s from Coker but really miss driving the thing, hope to put 5K miles / year when I return. Suspension will be 140# rear springs and stock front t-bars.

Hopefully the engine won't need much work, ran great before paint. Definitely need a tranny rebuild (noisy main bearing). Then reassemby and new interior, keeping as many original pieces as possible.

And here's a challenge for Ray... As much power as possible from the stock 2.0L! I think that will mean close to Honda Civic 1.6L A/T. BTW, if there is anything wrong with the engine I'd be extremely tempted by the 3.2L and upgrading to 16" wheels. That must be like a drug.

Beautiful car. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

One question... is that copper tubing used for a fuel line?

If so, it's not a good idea. The gas will flake the copper off inside the fuel line and clog anything downstream of it, like carburetor fuel screens. BTDT. Learned it the hard way. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

No, Those are not copper lines, they are very discolored plastic factory lines. I am not sure if Ray or Pete are planning on changing them or not. They are only discolored, not cracked or broken. However, it is down this far, I think I would be changing them out. That car is going to be the prettiest I have ever seen. Sorry I missed you Pete, I would have liked to meet you. Maybe next time.
