And look at that salt buildup underneath, so soon to be the rustiest. Well, maybe not THE rustiest. Or the fastest, either. Results (from HERE) were:
Day 8/10/13...... 00.000 8/11/13...... 86.000 8/12/13...... 95.020 8/13/13..... 106.663 8/14/13..... 108.503 |

We saw them out there when we were doing our photo shoot. They were being towed back to the starting line. They were honking their horn at us. We waved but we never did hook up.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net-1110-1385396026.1.jpg) After driving on that salt, I don't think a 914 would last over 4-5 years after that. Insane amounts of salt get "everywhere". Would be fun though. |

Wow, I looked up "Silacci's Speed Shop" and found this photo of that car in 2010, with a top:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/hubgarage.s3.amazonaws.com-2618-1385396379.1.jpg) Lower photo is Lloyd Silacci, who was 90 at the time. Description says: "Porsche 914’s of any kind are not often seen at Bonneville. This is Lloyd Silacci’s Porsche racer seen at the SCTA-BNI Speed Week in August of 2011. This car featured 4 turbos, that's right – one turbo for each cylinder. Mr. Silacci (age 90) is a veteran racer, he has been racing for quite sometime. Lloyd knows a thing or two about going fast." Also found another photo of Petaluma in 1958, showing Silacci's Speed Shop, among other things. That means he was part of the "American Graffiti" scene. So they may not have had a good year at Bonneville, but it's still plenty cool. |

I have pics on my home PC of about 4 other 914's at the "Flats". I'll post them tonight.

It goes really fast when you drop it out of an aero-plane. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It goes really fast when you drop it out of an aero-plane. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It's an Audi engine with four turbos, one for each cylinder, and I imagine it'll be a while before they get that sorted. Idea's totally improbable/impractical. No, even more than that, it's insanely ridiculous, so kudos to them for trying. |
