Original batch of CHP Mustangs were all 5-speed sticks; cops broke a lot of trannies trying to "get the hang" of driving them. Soon they pulled them all off the roads! I knew a Deputy Commissioner from the California Board of Prison Terms that managed to get one of those Mustangs assigned to him as his state vehicle (pulled some strings at the state garage in Sacto). He would let me drive it around the streets near LA County Jail when he was in town doing parole revocation hearings. It was pretty fast, but crude; he always asked if I thought the clutch needed adjustment! I would tell him I needed to drive it to give him an opinion...! Last time I saw him, the state garage had replaced his 'Stang with a Crown Vic...damn narc car!
