Ad says 901/38. 901/36 is the real 914/6 engine code. 901/38
is supposed to be the 916 2.4L, I doubt it's that. Probably a typo. Mark S. '70 914-6 |

Cheep at half the price.
901/38 is the 70-72 914/6 motor. Something for the CWs, maybe. Case & heads are sought after by the vintage crowd......the rest is ......poopy. |

The guy is here in San Diego and I sent him an e-mail saying that a complete operating 914/6 went for $800 and I thought his price was a bit high for a dissasebmled engine minus P&Cs that still requires a rebuild....
He thougthfully told me I didn't know what I was talking about. He has the same stuff on sale here on the BBS. James |

A few years ago (2 or 3?) I sold a complete 2.2 /6 for $500 (Zeniths instead of Webers)...
It's getting harder to sell these smaller motors...you need to find someone that needs a <2.4 liter motor, 'cause not many want one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Bruce Anderson lists the 901/38 as I wrote....USA version. 901/36 as the Euro version.
I suggest a duel....books at 20 paces (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I suggest a duel....books at 20 paces (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Found it in the BA book, didn't see it before. I think you're right, the Brian Long book doesn't list euro vs usa, and the other place which talked about /38 being the 916 engine has two same initials that would be found very early in the phone book (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Mark S. I'm first in line. Just want to make that clear. The rest of you back off! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) |

A guy has got to be careful when buyung these early motors.
All the 2.4Ls had good forged, counter weighted cranks, good rods, yada....same as in the 2.7L. Some of the 73 2.4s had 7R cases....gud stuff. The 2.2Ls are a bit tougher. The E & S had good cranks, rods, but the cases sux.....well,semi-sux. Both use 84mm cyls and Nikasil Cyls are available....but didn't come stock. They are THE hot ticket for a race motor, tho, as they make more power and cool better. |
