I need advice on what direction to go with my car.

Purchased with a 2.4 big bore engine.
We did cage,fuel cell, brakes, suspension, seats, guages, flares............$$$$

The car is basically race prepared but still street legal.

After much sorting out of previous owners mods we finally got it the engine running great and yesterday at the track it threw a rod.

Huge hole in the case.

I will not rebuild it.

I want to do a six conversion and possibly race in the Southeast with some venue. I am very colse to Roebling Road and do DE's and test and tune days.

I love driving the car on the street so that's a big consideration.

What engine?

If I do a 3.2 or 3.6 conversion is there a class to race in?

There is a class for the 3.2 and 3.6, but you'll be racing against Carreras and 993's.

The 3.2 would put you in PCA GT3 (R or S depending on tire)
the 3.6 would put you in PCA GT2 (R or S depending on tire)

also, the 3.2 is a direct bolt-in,

the 3.6 needs a lot of additional (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)
and PLENTY of external oil-cooler ...

You live in the home town of HSR.. think about a 2.0 six and go have some fun in the vintage race classes (2.0 Porsche challenge) A lot less headache and more fun. They have a huge 914 vintage meet every year right near you.

Hey, this sounds VERY familiar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I went with a small six (2.2S) due to race classification reasons.

One thing to keep in mind is that you could start smaller, and have fun in HSR 2.0 class or other groups where you would not be up against the big-winged 3.6-3.8 911's.

THEN, if/when you feel like it, anything up to a 3.2 is basically a drop-in upgrade. I may end up putting something between a 2.5 short-stroke and 3.0RSR in mine next, when I'm ready to bump a class or two. (Or, I'll just buy a different car, if I get smarter by that time.)

Thanks for the input guys.

Looks like we will go with a 2.2 twin plug.

I want to be able to run pump gas.

Found a core motor in Atlanta. Does $1000. sound right?

Should I run carbs or fuel injection? I have been told that once you get the injection right your'e done.

I would appreciate any info. or advice on the conversion process and parts sources.

Always keep "the rules" in mind if you will be autocrossing or tracking the car.

You will be crushed in the car classification rules with EFI, if you're competing as a "914-6". If you start your mods based on a 914-4, then you'll get killed for the extra cylinders, carbs etc.

Give us pricing on all the parts. I will give you "wholesale" if you buy the parts from a club member and not Patrick.

He has nothing that isnt already available from 30 other sources.

I don't know how many people are making 914-6 sheetmetal these days, but I think that the Patrick Motorsports/ GPR sheetmetal is probably of better quality than most. I had ordered a set from GPR years ago, and though I sent it back because it did not fit my needs, I think it was made of higher gauge metal and was better made than the set I got recently from Pelican Parts.

I think the Pelican Parts set is the commonly available sheetmetal. I was really unimpressed. It was thin and flimsy. Some of the sheetmetal bends and curves were achieved through spot welds. No thanks. Sent that back too.

I'm more inclined to try to bang out my own as a project, but I might be tempted to go back to GPR/ Patrick once again. It's just hard for me to justify spending $400 for, what, $5 worth of metal?
