Sunset Beach, CA Sighting, 1970 - now at Art's Place for body work... Options

Saw this 914 at the PCH GArage in Sunset Beach this am. Story is the car was in storage for 20 years. Very clean except for the primer on the rear trunk and a small dent on the pass side. Owner is local.

I just love the steel wheel and body color bumpers combo. Not many opted for the basic package back in the day.
But like it better than the chrome bumpers.

Thanks for noticing. I purchased the car a little over a year ago from the original owner that had passed away. The car had been sitting for over 20 years so over the past year I have brought her back to life. Im not happy about the body work on the trunk. The guy that delivered the car to me wenched the car on to a trailer. The cable broke and the car rolled off and hit another car. Without telling me he went and had someone do a pretty poor job in repairing. That is also why the taillight is incorrect. desperate times called for desperate measures.

As for the ding in the passenger rear quarter panel, that has some history. The previous own was an avid ski'er and would go to Tahoe every weekend. Well he had hit some ice back in the 70's and hit a snow bank. I have all the estimates to get it fixed back then.

Currently the car is running great but wanted Hector to do the tune up on it just to check my handy work.

The next step is getting the rust repair at the jack holes. I have new stainless side skirts that were never put on. So after Hector is done working his magic I will be looking for someone local to take care of that for me.

I look forward to seeing you guys on the open road now that I have her running.

Cool! The plate starts with 0 so it may have been registered in 1969...what's the VIN if you don't mind sharing it? BTW when you do the cosmetics...those fog lights aren't the right ones. You probably know that. Most likely didn't come with them originally. Love it just as it is though!

based on the vin: 4702910314 I don't think it was a 69. What I loved about the car was that it was so stripped down. The person ordered it with zero options. No radio and no fog lights. He then put in a radio and the aftermarket fog lights. My goal would be to remove the fog lights and bring it back to its original state. Might be hard to find the grills with no fog light holes.

Sorry I wasn't too clear on that...what I meant it might have been sold and titled in 1969...indicating it might have a low VIN #. The first model YEAR for the 914 was 1970... Some of us are always looking for the earliest and the latest cars that members own..the earliest '70 and the latest '76...(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Geeky but fun. Your VIN # isn't too low but that's really not a big deal at all.

It's not too hard to find the grills you need and they aren't that pricey. I'll shut up now and someone will tell you where to find 'em.

I have 4702911981 which was built in August 1970, so 2910314 would be about June 1970. My car was originally sold in Memphis, TN and registered as a 1970.

It has steel wheels with aluminum trim rings and the VW type moon hubcaps without a center logo. The bumpers are chrome, but it is missing fog lights. It has the original solid fog light grills. It has chrome trim around the windshield and sail panels. Came with a radio but I'm pretty sure it was aftermarket.

First year (model year or MY) for the US market is 1970, although Porsche production starts halfway through the prior year, meaning some MY 1970 cars were built in 1969.

The style of plate you have started being supplied by the CA DMV in 1969.

Put WTB ads in the classifieds for the parts you need ... they'll surface as time goes by.

. Hector has taken care of my 914 the past 15+years along with several other members. He knows all the in-an-outs and of the 914 and is treats customers right.l
There's about 8 914s in the Seal Beach area; three in old town, 2 on the hill, one in Liesure World, and 1 or 2 in Rossmore.

Jan 13th update. Pass rear fender has been straightened and the rear hood has been preped. Looks like both sides will need some Resoration Design replacements.
